The Worth of losing stats for unique abilities

I decided to post this after contacting Riot support on twitter and Cles recommending to open a disgusion about this topic. Right so Athene's unholy grail is only item that makes you lose stats from components. So you you lose 5 ap after upgrade, it feels odd cause I think there is no other item that makes you lose stats. So is there going to be items like that more or will this stay as exception.

Build path: Fiendish codex (35ap+10%CDR) + Chalice of Harmony (30Mr + 50% base mana regen) = Athene's unholy grail (30ap+30mr+10%cdr+ 100% base mana regen+ Passive:Dissonace + UNIQUE: Gain 35% of the premitigation damage dealt to champions as Blood Charges, up to 100 - 250 (based on level). Healing or shielding another ally consumes charges equal to 100% of the heal or shield, to heal them, up to the original effect amount.
