I think I've discovered the key to supporting in this meta.

Assuming you don't get assaulted by a Yi, Vi, or Yasuo at the wrong time... The key to supporting is this: Come mid game, identify who on your team has the greatest destructive potential. Facilitate that person. Keep them alive, buff them, embolden them with flanking maneuvers. Whatever you do, keep that person in the fight. This is where I've had the most success at support lately.

Edit: Some people seem to be getting a little sarcastic. While this isn't abnormal for the internet, I want to make clear what I mean here. I'm saying ignore the rest of your team. Every single one of them, no matter how well or poorly they're doing. Your ADC, your top, your jungler, I don't care if they're running to you with Ignite on them and you have a heal up. You save that heal for the top performer, unless they're so far away that your heal has time to cool down before you reach them. This is how I'm having the most success of late.

What I love the most about supporting is when I'm keeping our 10/2 or w.e mid laner alive and my 1/8 adc is like "WHERE IS MY SUPPORT"

Hidden suggestion: Don't play Rakan in Solo. Not because he is bad, but he has the tendency to attract bad Xayah players.

who knew you should support the strongest person on your team challenger players hate him for exposing this big secret

that is truuu, but it's also why Yuumi is so strong rn

Same strat is fairly effective as a jungler as well.

Yeah but sadly most people just brain dead follow adcs and assume its always them. Sadly not even other people will understand that adcs starts to cry off i have no support then the entire team echo's it.

Another thing I found out about support climbing. Don't pick tanks in silver. They rely way too heavily on atleast 1 other teammate to be passibly competent to get them ahead. I found out the hard way with Leona that I could CC someone or even a whole team for 5-10 seconds and not a single teammate near me will go in or even attack the person until after I die. Too much of a coinflip.

Better off just playing damage and taking all the kills to yourself.

Identifying and enabling your team's win condition is a good plan for both supports and junglers.

Metal Janna10/9/2019, 7:40:23 AM4 votes

It is vital that you always prioritize either whoever is carrying, or if nobody is doing well, the one most likely to scale up and start carrying soon.

Buuut just because your team's snowball is rolling doesn't mean you let the other team get theirs rolling. Otherwise the enemy team might pull their shit together and shut down your carry(s).

isnt that kinda the standard? i mean why would i support an adc whos 0/10 or a yasuo thats 0/20? obviously i focus on the damage dealer that is 10/2.

ExcaliburX10/8/2019, 1:25:23 PM3 votes

Im glad you figured that out.

Meep Man10/9/2019, 12:55:41 AM3 votes

This is an interestingly obvious strategy and I hope most people were doing this already... please?

coincidence that this gets posted the same day IWILLDOMINATE said on stream that you're supposed to play around the person carrying you

It's the key to supporting in any meta. Kudos to you to have discovered this on your own, but you're far from being the first one.

If you want another tips, if you are a tanky jungler/toplaner and you are behind, start supporting your best carry, buy a knights vow, buy a solaris ...

OR, simply, BE THE PERSON WITH THE MOST DESTRUCTIVE POWER IN YOUR TEAM. Brand Veigar Pyke Xerath Velkoz

Nope. You should try to support the weakest link while also being AVAILABLE to support the strongest. If you attempt to support one person, you will lose far more than if you learn to time the dimensions between one player and another.

For example: Your adc recalls, but you need XP and Gold income while they are gone. What do you do? a) Steal cs and set back your support item's cooldowns. b) Recall with them, even though you're full HP/mana. c) Roam, and gank mid, or help a jungler, or ward drakes, and soak up nonpilfering XP.

I'm personally a huge fan of C.

After lane example: You're playing with a hyper carry adc who plays passive and only takes kills when they are objectively sure things, and stops after they get one objective. In 1:15 a Drake spawns, and you are on the other side of the map, pushing a turret with adc. What do you do?

a) Take the turret with the adc, recall, and roam to Drake. b) Ignore the adc, recall and go to Drake. c) Help the adc, but run to Drake instead. d) Ignore the adc, but run to Drake.

^ Should be a no brainer but I bet at least 3 would get answers.

A; It takes a duo adc with a good support about 12 seconds at most times of a game where this scenario would occur to kill a turret. You have 1:15, which is plenty of time to help the adc, and the shortest route to the Drake is your base. Furthermore, you aren't running through wards, making it obvious, and you're restocking your trinket's wards. You will also arrive in enough time to canvas ward yourself and possibly get into a gank position.

Planning out thought processes like these on the macro level are the primary reason good supports win.

I could also get into Micro play (Throwing a bubble at one target but ulting and hitting allies and 2 other targets with it, while bounce W healing 2 allies who need it, while Igniting the right target... all in 1-2 seconds) but that's too complicated to get the point across.

How to carry from Support:

Step 1: research your bot laners match history. How well do they peform?

Step 2: If the bot laner is decent at several Marksmen, pick a normal Support either a healer/enchanter or a tank then move on to Step 3; If the bot laner doesn't have a good track record or is auto-filled, pick a strong AP champion like Brand, Vel'koz, Xerath, Lux or just pick Pyke if he isn't banned. You are the carry in the lane now, end of advice be the carry (but don't steal CS, they may be garbage at the role but they need items to help take objectives).

Step 3: Marksmen is doing good, stick with them and roll around the map as a two-some. Take every objective together, focus on supporting the fed members of your team but don't abandon the marksmen. They will be an asset and with a few items will be one of the strongest people on the team; If the Marksmen is not doing good, abandon them when you think they are too far behind and start roaming around the map. In the current meta, you don't have time to help them catch up unfortunately, they need to catch up on their own or just not hinder the team. Your job now is to support the other members of the team. Its situational when you should abandon them, being behind does not mean its a lost cause, but don't wait to long you are a play-maker for better teammates and can be a deciding factor.
