CS'ing - How long do you have to practice?

How long do you have to practice cs'ing before you actually start to perform it well? I hear that you should have about 30-35 cs around 5-6mins and after the 11th min you should be getting 9-10 cs a min. A lot easier said than done.

I keep ending up with 20-23. Is there a way to CS a lot better than this?

Practice. Some people need more than others. I took a month's break and my average CS feel by 10.

My only tip is to avoid using skills when you don't have to use them to CS. Other than that is just work on your timing and positioning.

For laners, you should be looking for 70-80 CS by the 10 minute mark. A good goal to set is to try for 50 by then, and then working from there. It's all about know your projectile speed, your minion projectile speed, and how much damage each does.

Also, for under turret farming. Melee minions Tower Shot>Tower Shot>AA. Caster minions, AA>Tower shot>AA.

Try doing a few custom games for 10 minutes each, JUST to practice last hitting. Or, better, get a friend to do customs with you, and let them play a champ murderer. They just sit in lane and bully enemy champs to keep them off your back while you CS. I did this for a friend once (he was level 1 and still learning the game). I just played Katarina, we went into bot lane, and I murdered the lane opponents while he learned how farming worked.

From there, learn how to farm while still playing and counterplaying lane opponents. Gradual steps.

Every champ is a little bit different. If you change champions too often it will be a slow climb. Swain/Tristana are pretty awful to last hit with and take way more practice.

One trick is to watch if there will be two minions reaching low health at the same time. That's where you're going to lose the most CS from, so try to auto-attack one of them a bit so you can scoop it earlier than the other.

It's worth grabbing some AD runes and/or the masteries for last hitting, if it will tremendously increase your gold income early. Most characters exchange a lot of autos in the early game (even AP characters) so it's not like having 10 extra damage on hit is a loss.

honestly sometimes it depends on your lane. if you're against a leblanc or syndra you're probably going to miss a fair amount of CS so that you don't take a stupid amount of damage. if you're against a morgana she's going to shove it into your tower and so the onus is on you not to miss CS.

if you play a snowbally champion (i play riven, for example) sometimes you'll end up missing a lot of CS due to constantly fighting your opponent in lane for the advantage. sometimes I'll find myself with half of my midlaner's CS when I play riven simply because of the frequency that I'm fighting someone. the early game matters a lot to whoever can secure the advantage in lane!

so if you want to practice your CS then pick a farm champion like orianna or xerath and practice your last hitting. that'll really help your mechanics. if you realize you play a bunch of snowbally champions then just accept you're going to miss more than average early on, and your lane hinges more on slight advantages in hp so that you can freeze lane and snowball later.

Every day, before your first game of the day, go to a custom game and last hit untill 15:00 on the game timer. Then go play as normal. Don't use abilities, don't push the lane, just last hit minions. Count every minion you miss.

Do this for a month, maybe two, and you will be missing 10 of less per session.
