Red Post Collection: Details on Extra Patch coming in December, Ask Riot: Religion & LeBlanc, & More

If you have a champion such as Leblanc, who you guys admit didn't hit the mark, why move onto another champion? What if the next champion misses the mark, now you have 2 champions who are in a weird state.. I thought you guys learned from the assassin update that "class updates" are bad and rushed. How is this any different? It's like you want to update every champion before actually making the one's you have accessed "correct".. Please for the love of God don't be in such a hurry to fix everything at once.. Do a good job and show the community you care about their interest in their mains.

He says right in his answer that they are going to do small scale tuning to her current kit to put her in a better spot and try and make her a bit more like old LB while satisfying the people that like playing her rework. They don't want to rush full kit changes and end up making a third version of LeBlanc that just ends up pissing off everyone that played both the original and reworked versions.

As a designer in training, I can kinda speak to this. Basically, sometimes you design something that you think is great and you've ironed out the issues but it somehow missed the mark. Sometimes it's easy like an "Oh, DUH!" kind of moment, and you can tweak it almost immediately and have a new iteration overnight that solves it all.

Sometimes though it's hard; it's the kind of thing where by all rights what you did should have worked perfectly and you're stumped how to resolve the issues you misunderstood or didn't foresee.

When that's the case, it takes time to reach a resolution, and in a company, reinvesting that kind of time can be pretty costly, so a sacrifice has to be made, and that item becomes a lower priority until someone reaches some new insight in how to resolve the problem.

Also, there are times when it's simply a matter of fixing that which seems the easiest to resolve for the least investment at the time, and tackling the harder stuff more gradually with spare resources until you can delegate enough effort to fully fix the issue in one go.

PFFTHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Oh, man.

Buddy ol' pal, if Riot wanted to show people they have a vested interest in their mains, Leblanc is NOT where they need to be starting. She's had plenty of time to shine.

For starts, they have more than one team. You can easily have one group doing one champion and another looking at a different champion.

What if the next champion misses the mark?

You can't live in fear like that or you'll accomplish nothing. They move on because that's what you do- learn from your failures and try again later. Imagine if they stuck on Ryze every time because they couldn't quite figure him out? There'd be something like half a year dedicated JUST to fixing Ryze. This is the better path in the overall scheme of things I think.

Do a good job and show the community you care about their interest in their mains.

Considering how frequently Rioters insist they're losing sleep and arguing with one another about what they're doing or how they're doing it- it's hardly a lack of care that's the issue.

They also can't just keep working on the same champ over and over again when other champs are in desperate need of work done. That's how we end up with champs like Ryze who just constantly get updated and miss the mark while champs like Nunu have to wait behind them cause "We'll get it right this time for sure". There are over 130 champs and a good portion of them need some form of work done. They already mentioned that they are at least TRYING to make sure that her next update will do her justice. Some of us are not anywhere near as lucky.

A lot of time when things get iceboxed, or put on hold, it's because they can't think of a solid direction. It's not a simple "If we work X hours, we'll find a solution".

Can't find a source, but I'm confident in my info that they tried a Leblanc rework idea, but what came out didn't feel like Leblanc, but felt like it could be used on a future champion, so they scrapped it. It's why Yorick took so long to come out for his VGU, they just never found a solid core concept for him to flesh out.

What if the next champion misses the mark, now you have 2 champions who are in a weird state..

Leblanc , Rengar , Akali , Zyra , Zac , Sejuani , Mordekaiser , Skarner

Depending on who you ask I almost certainly missed some.

It's a lot more than two champions. And don't think Riot ever really did learn their lesion from the assassin rework.

You cant halt the release of new champions and other reworks to rework 5 failed assasins 4 of which are just going to get some small tweaks.

I look at riot's development projects like a queue. The first one in is the first one out. If they screw up a project, they will have to put it back into a queue and continue working on other things. Once the failed project is next in line of work, Riot will work on it. Else, it will have to wait until its turn comes.
