Fiora - Is there really something wrong?
So, I've been perusing the boards and reddit threads often and I've seen a TON of hatred directed at the new Fiora rework.
I'll preface this by saying a few things.
- I've never had a "main".
- My highest rank was Gold V. I'd like to rectify that this season.
- I only played old Fiora once before...ever.
That said, since I bought Fiora (post-rework), I have literally never had so much fun on a champion. She is now my main, plain and simple. I've had a bunch of other champs that I've always enjoyed, and been pretty damn confident in my abilities with...but this is the first time I've ever thought, "I should practice this champ until I'm amazing with her."
Now, back to my original point. Is there really something wrong with her kit? I'm not asking the old Fiora mains...I've seen the 1200+ responses in multiple locations both here on the boards and on reddit.
No, if you want to weigh in I'm looking for a point of comparison to the old version of herself.
I'll leave you with my own impressions and feelings.
First game, hated her. Nearly refunded her. Second game, much better. Better mechanics. Third game, I loved her. And by the time I got into a ranked game with her, I had fallen head-over heels with the champ. I feel like those complaining about her keep harping on 3 points: her build requires too much (not-true IMO), she lost her split-pushing pressure (possibly true), and her sticking power (also might use a bit of work).
For the build path, I've had enormous success going Hydra into LW. I keep seeing people who claim that CDR and AS are paramount to her kit, but I think the resets on her E and the item procs from her Q are strong enough to not have to worry about that. I've run
before and I wasn't as big a fan as

. Dueling potential exists, as long as (go figure) you play smart and safe.
For split-pushing, I believe she can still be strong. Her Q jumping walls is incredibly useful, and by the end of the game if you tag a minion / monster / champ with it the CD (even with minimal or no CDR) is incredibly short. I've evaded a number of ganks by jumping to the Gromp. Unfortunately, I will say that she does have some lack of escape insofar as being susceptible to being outnumbered / collapsed on by 3+ people, but I've managed to 1v2 and even 1v3 if I can nuke someone with my ult quickly enough.
Finally, in regards to her sticking power, I'm torn. The best suggestion I've seen is having the cooldown on Q reset after proccing her passive. I'm worried this would give her a little bit too much mobility, but alas I think most people are in the right when they say you can just be simply kited out (and not being able to attack someone's weakness who's hugging a wall is infuriating for "counterplay"). I've done the
build and phage is useful for that (plus the burst from the sheen proc is rather nice) as opposed to the
build.
As part of my final remarks, I'll leave with the bugs. They're there. Ult sometimes doesn't go off. Her passive sometimes doesn't proc even though I'm standing perfectly perpendicular to the champ at the correct angle. Inability to use summoner spells during her Q animation (which leads to additional bugs if you die mid-Q...oh, I died mid-Q and on respawn I want to TP? Nope....) Are these latency problems, or flat-out bugs? Who knows. But once they get ironed out, I think she'll be amazing.
All-in-all I feel that she's incredibly strong, and fun. That is the important part of my argument. Not the one-dimensional, frustrating to play champ that everyone seems to think her as being.
Could she use a couple of QoL improvements? Sure. But I think she's in a fair place. Thoughts?
