@Meddler Can you reevaluate Doran's items again this preseason?
The usefulness of each start, even stacking and continuing into the game being in favor of the better starts, is extremely lopsided at the moment.
is 184.06% gold efficient, without considering the invaluable mana restoration (~5.6g per unit; 10 CS makes it just under 200% gold efficient). Plus you can afford two health potions/refillable. This gives it even more sustaining power than Doran's Shield: the item that's supposed to be about sustaining through lane. Doran's Ring is so gold efficient that people still stack it commonly. Even non-AP champions cough GP cough and tanks grab it, especially if they have a lane they have to play passively, because its THAT good. The overall health and mana sustain you get from this start often equals Corrupting Potion.
is 134.63% gold efficient. No passives, and you can afford one potion. This is probably the most balanced starting item. Not much else to say.
is 95.41% gold efficient. Its stats are worse than every other starting item in nearly every way from sustaining in lane, even defensively, to chancing at winning lane. Its obvious that this item was supposed to cancel out Doran's Blade, but it offers inferior CSing potential under tower (where you'll likely end up anyway), lower sustain, and you can't even stack it when somebody is stacking Doran's Blades. Its essentially a hopeless buy even vs ranged match-ups, where it tricks you into thinking it might be a good idea. Dark Seal+3 pots, 2 rejuv+4 pots, and ruby+2 pots are all far, far, far better options to supersede what this item's intended starting 'niche' ---if you can even call it that--- is.
While these aren't among the Doran's line, they still deserve a little special mention.
is 133.21% gold efficient, three health potions available while giving you +3/4 of one due to its amplification, offers AP (up to 635g worth) if you snowball. This item is an idiotic concept because it offers safety and snowball potential to the only champions that would use this item: extremely safe champions like
. The item it builds into
isn't used by anyone except
or
with their almost overbearing safety because its far too risky to ever be worth considering on anyone else. Both items could be deleted and only
would really miss it. You'd think a snowball item would have less gold value and safety than a defensive starting item like
. This item is horribly designed from the intended purpose to the intended users. Just delete Mejai's already so this item doesn't have an excuse to exist.
should at least gain a charge when killing siege or promoted minions and 'large' summons like Shaco, Annie, Yorick, and Morde ults. It should be a tiny bit better than it is outside of the jungle, considering its not restricted to it. Probably still wouldn't be worth picking up on non-junglers, but it probably wouldn't hurt to make it worth something on someone that's not an extremely mana intensive/farm heavy jungler. Upgrading from refillable to this increases your HP sustain by a measly 50 over 16 more seconds if you aren't jungling.
