I think most Gold players are pretty decent at the game. After climbing 3 accounts through silver last season to gold I can say that most silver players are pretty bad at the game.

Most Gold V, Silver II, and Silver I are all about the same in terms of skill. There is a difference among higher gold players and lower gold players that is noticeable.

Average player is Silver IV. Being Gold means you are an above average player. Also There is a huge difference between gold and silver. Silver 1-Gold IV is about the same skill.
