Why did I get punished for someone else abandoning the game?

So, draft normal, champion select just after bans, waiting for game to start, someone leaves and the lobby closes. Ok, no problem, just look for another match. Click to start and I get a message saying I'm banned from the que for leaving the game early, which I didn't do. Why did I get punished? Can someone explain this?
