So my Friend was Interested in League.
So, one of my friends was interested in League once he found out I played it. I told him a bit about the game and what it was like.
He began to ask about the company. Since it's like their only game, the Riot seem to really care about their players. While communication is a little bad and their Balance teem seem to be on a personal journey to find themselves and what it means to be balanced, they really do care and try to do their best for the player base. It can be hard to cater to both the pro and casual players, but they do try and it is evident.
He was happy about that and began to ask about our little community we have here. I laughed and tried to brush it off, but he insisted. "If you want the plain hard truth, the community sucks." That's what I told him. Everyone is toxic in a game that required communication. Everyone is arguing in a place meant for discussion. And EVERYONE has a different idea about how the game should be balanced and can't agree on a proper fix for something.
Guys, we as a community make the game what it is at its core. This game is a team game that requires communication between team members to do well. That CAN'T happen if everyone can't agree or is toxic. (Also, there are tons of reasons to utilize the chat, and not chatting is a weakness of a player not looking to get out of bronze. Please don't jeopardize the team because you won't communicate. If the team ends up being toxic, then mute, but don't mute straight away. It can only hurt you.)
Our game is a very attractive game. Our community is massive and our reach on the esports field is pretty big. We can make this game amazing if we have a community that welcomes "noobs" and tries to help them instead of blaming them for their loss. We need to take responsibility for feeding if it was our fault. If it wasn't, we need to try to work with the team.
This is a stretch, but if everyone really commits themselves to bettering the game, we can stop being the laughing stock of the other gaming communities. We can welcome new players into the game better and help them learn about it. This is a massive game, and it takes a while to learn. And overall, we can bring more players and money into the company that tries to help us and they can help us in turn. You can argue all you want about them being money hogs and not caring about the players, but REAL players see past that.
Honestly, we as a community actually limit the game right now, but we can make it so much better. The community makes a game, not the otehr way around.
