Jungle Camps

During the course of designing the new Summoner's Rift, how did the unique designs of the individual jungle camps come about? Did the red and blue buff camp designs start out and continue as an attempt to mirror the buffs themselves, or are they just for looking cool? (Of which they look amazing)
