Revisiting the Topic of Season Placements

We have a long yet short ways to go until the beginning of Season 8. We're only fast approaching the end of Season 7. Champions will be reworked and rebalanced, items will be altered, added, removed, the major Runes and Masteries overhaul coming, among other things that may or may not change the game...

The season will be a tad hectic. The salt will fly as certain combinations no longer effectively remain. One thing that worries me is how everyone will deal with Season 8's placements, as well as how Season 8's ranked season will deal with us. Some people want repeat placements if there are obvious trolls. Others want your gameplay and scores to be reflected in where you're placed. Some believe things are fine as is, but are they?

Whatever happens will happen, but I wonder...will things be different this time around?
