How should I itemize?

So I understand itemizing based on what the enemy builds, but should I mainly itemize against what they're whole team builds, or based on what the enemy laner builds? Ik it's a simple question, I just want clarity.

It depends. First my best advice for you is to build complete items instead of multiple parts. I do that mistake sometimes and I see other players do that too. It better to have a full item 3142 than a item 1001 +item 3134 + item 3086 . The gold you used on the Boots + the Zeal could be used to buy the Ghostblade; or instead of Boots + the armor pen item, you could buy a full item 3085 . Full Item > part of items. Some expections exist, that's just the general rule of thumb.

Going a little more in-topic now. You usually follow this itemization rules:

  • Build against your laner. You'll be spending most time with him during the early game so it's smart to be able to win that match up.
  • Build against the General theme of the team or against the champions with most potential. If the enemy team is composed of high Magic Damage, but you are against an AD champion, you should still build against AD as your first item, but you need to consider to focus on MR after that. The same deal works the other way round. If the enemy team has champions with high potential like Fizz or LB (mid-game) you should prioratize those as your second (and maybe third) item.
  • If a specific champion is snowballing in the enemy team. If you are either winning or tied against your laner, but someone on the enemy team is getting out of control, you should prioratize building against that champion. How the snowball is happening dicactes how you play your lane tough.

Those are just some general guide lines. Every game is a different game and you should be able to adapt to every situation. Your team-comp also plays a big part in your decisions.
