AP Item Changes That Shouldn't Happen, and What Should Happen Instead

Not gonna post it all here, but context is at the link: http://boards.pbe.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/champions-gameplay-feedback/q2694bqE-513-core-ap-items-pass

1) RoA is going to have the same AP and 100 more HP than Rylai's, yet cost 300 gold less.... while giving 150 more mana than it currently gives.

Add better CDR itemization so champions who build RoA (or Seraph's) don't have to double down on mana (Morello/Athene's) or defense (Glacial/Kindle items on top of RoA's health) in order to hit CDR cap. This option also helps manaless champs, instead of dumping on them like making RoA out-stat Rylai's does.

2) Liandry's is getting 30 more AP for a price increase of 100 gold.

Make Liandry's effective at its niche and make it feel effectual (pretty much the opposite of %current HP, DOT, and non-stacking). As it is, you'll likely need to overbuff the item to get the playerbase to appreciate it.

3) Void Staff is getting 10 more AP for ~200 more gold

Same thing as Liandry's - Void is supposed to serve a role of countering defense stackers, but throwing more AP on it and making it more expensive waters down that identity while also making it slower to build as counter-itemization. If you need to nerf it, do so by making it less gold efficient & don't raise the price.

4) Deathcap's %AP amp is being increased by 5% for 200 more gold

This breaks even with current DCap at ~200 AP, including DCap's 120. In other words, it's a straight buff, and one that further encourages the stacking of the NLR items instead of creating build diversity. If AP champs need the greater amp to survive, then just buff AP on the other items instead of shoehorning them into deathcap. If instead, you're trying to give deathcap a more defined place in heavy AP builds, then push the breakeven point higher - with a straight buff, you're not pushing dcap out of any builds.

GENERAL THOUGHTS

I think both RoA and Seraph's are overbuffed, and along with a buffed DCap, form the new best build. Of course, this build is still attractive to only the champs it was attractive to before, because it requires a kit that can stack the tear, that needs (most of) the mana, that doesn't need CDR, and that can use the (admittedly now lower) health. Diversity would be better served by creating NEW items, especially items that fill the existing holes in itemization (CDR items for APs that don't have mana regen). Niche/counter items would feel more potent with more of their gold value in the counter stat, rather than tied up in AP. This holds double for active items, which I think is a very interesting space to work in (support items), where you aren't as concerned about how slot efficient an item's stats are.

Thanks for reading this far!

You realize deathcap is losing 20ap yeah?

100ap + 35% = 135AP 120ap + 30% = 156AP

Pretty clear nerf

Yeah I hope they give this some more thought. They standardized AD last year and that created the Infinity Edge RNG crit meta. But for the AP items, the biggest problems with those are (as you said) the lack of CDR and AP items without mana regen, Liandry's odd spot that it currently resides in, and the necessity of Deathcap and/or Voidstaff in almost every AP build.
