Why is SMITE able to provide a 1 time payment for ALL Gods + Future ones (champs)?...

King of TroIIs·8/17/2017, 7:48:07 PM·10 votes·4,147 views

...with a smaller playerbase but League it costs $5296 (number is fictional but I'm sure you understand)?

This would allow new players to purchase all champs + future champs thus allowing them to learn and adapt to the META quicker. I don't see how this as a CON in any way because the revenue the one time payment + new player retention means more skin and other micro-puchase payments coming in (on top of the pro-scene audience growing, etc etc etc).

Can anyone explain this or at least give a counter argument that doesn't involve Riot's revenue (as it would only be a short term loss vs a long term gain)?

Super simple. League was first it doesn't HAVE to attract customers.

Smite wasn't first. It has to go above and beyond leauge to attract customers otherwise people would just play what came first (leauge)

@thread

  1. A moba is as a moba does. League = Mcdonalds SMITE = carls jr DOTA 2 = wendys HotS = jack in the box

Theyre all different restaurants but they serve similar foods and satisfy slightly different markets. However, theyre all in direct competition with each other and use each others successes to their own devices The loot system for example is a carbon copy of tencents version of the overwatch loot system for their mobile MOBA.

  1. While SMITEs ultimate god pack would be very useful on league, riot would likely price it at 100 USD or something ridiculous like that and i HIGHLY doubt theyre actually capable of making it "forever" - it would likely be for all "current".

  2. Someone mentioned riot prefers short term over long term. I agree with this immensely. Riot is MUCH MORE LIKELY to create "season passes" that give you all the champions released that season; S1 pass, S2 pass, S3 pass, S4 pass, S5 pass, etc. Likely it would include that seasons worlds skins and the champions that came out during that season for something like 50 bucks.

Well imo it is better to grind to obtain all champs. You gain satisfaction each time you can unlock one and it takes so much time to learn one well enough to play it at your bestthat having all champs from the beginning seems stupid. It forces new player to learn their champs. Moreover it helps reducing smurfs and i like that. I think one account is all we need. Money is for skins imo. By the time you've learn one champ you can afford another. The meta is a fantasy at low elo. I recently had a friend to start the game, he chose his fav champ : kindred top, then gnar jungle. He was happy to unlock them and learn each one as he progresses in game knowledge. Having all champs can lost you, you don't learn anything and just try them all without getting attached to them. It takes years to learn every champ abilities. If you want to try champs there is rotations and streamers that can give the feeling of seeing the champ played at its best.

SMITE does stuff differently than League man. Why would you want two companies to do the same thing. Oh wait there are those type. But, in video games you don't want same exact shit. Except for Riot it wouldn't be a short term loss in essence.

You get a better bargain in smite, but the overall quality is better in league.

I would say the reason why is because Smite is smaller so they have to work harder at keeping their playerbase happy so they don't leave and so they can draw in new customers. With league they were one of the OGs of the mobas so naturally people will already come to them or Dota over any other game in this genre. Also they're already big they don't have to try as hard as Hirez to get new players/ keep them because most people here even though they may say otherwise are here to stay.

For as many people that say this game is trash and toxic as hell there's a person noticing how their friend is playing this all the time or seeing the many youtubers playing the game or even seeing their friend tell them to play the game with them. Hell I tell my friends I hate this game on a daily basis and laugh at all the jokes about this game being trash but I still play consistently and tell others they should play it to. Hated the katarina rework and still do to this day but I'm still playing her.

Got off topic a bit but Smites essentially doing this as a way to keep people playing/coming. While Riot doesnt have to work as hard as them to resort to that bundle. Because if SMite was big enough they wouldn't have had that bundle either

Smite had way, way fewer characters when they started this deal and they were also an emerging title in an already saturated market. It's an attempt to get people into the game at the expense of potential future reveneue on those players. Riot could just as easily do this if you wanted to but theres no need because Riot doesn't need this kind of deal to draw in players and they also stand to lose far more potential revenue off such a sale. League has over 130 champions now. A pack with all the champions would either lose Riot tons of money or be so expensive that no one would ever buy it, so why bother?

It is a pretty good point, but being an owner of the god pass, i'll say it kinda makes the game boring for me.

To explain, a huge part of the fun in league is looking at all the champions from least to most expensive and just choosing who I think is interesting as a goal to eventually get. I don't play ranked, so I find the biggest joy in one tricking a champ until I can unlock another to one trick.

In Smite having everyrhing at once is kinda overwhelming.

Well, you could ask the same question about many things in SMITE vs League.

SMITE just introduced Daily Chests that you can have up to 4 of weekly (resets every Tuesday, and you can buy more slots to unlock them sooner (75 Gems (RP) vs 2750 Favor (IP). They are granted upon WINNING games and not based on Grades. These chests don't require Keys or any form of material to make items inside them. League on the other hand, you can have 4 chests a MONTH, are granted upon an S- or high, and they DO require keys + some other form of payment (essense) to get said items in them.

SMITE also releases new gods (has about 86 now) and when they do release a new god, the next patch or the following one will already have a new skin for said, God. Over in League, we are lucky to get new skins for new champions within a year, some haven't seen skins in 2-6 years since their releases.

But LoL does offer 10 rotating champions free-to-use. I haven't been paying attention to this for years but maybe the number could go up considering how many champions are there.
