Ranked System Might be a Little Messed Up

My thouughts on the ranked system? I just finished a game against a Tristana mid, who claimed to be a smurf. Her KDA was much more than the average Silver 5 player would be. She also happened to be duo queueing with a Gold 1 Annie support who was in her series to platinum. My question: Why am I allowed to be queued against players who are over an entire tier above mine? I am in silver 2, and I happen to have been duo queueing with someone who literally just got to Gold 5 (we duo queue a good amount, and when we weren't, he managed to get to gold). It also wasn't very fun, considering that these two people were quite arrogant in allchat, and the Annie was even taunting out entire team outright (in a very toxic manner).

I personally think that nobody should ever be matchmade against someone who is literally over an entire tier above someone else, because it makes the match completely unfair.

I won't lie, this is a post that helps me burn off a bit of steam out of that, but I do genuinely think that it's a problem. A gold 5 shouldn't be matched up against a Gold 1 right off of the bat either.
