Wards and changes, a good thing?
I'm fully prepared for this to get a whole buncha downvotes, but I'm still gonna say this. Riot games is full of people who are talented and qualified to code the game. With 81 million people playing the game since 2017, they really can't pander to everyone, but instead they try to do what is most enjoyable for the game. Here's the thing: we as players don't know jack shit about what we're gonna find fun, and neither does Riot. However, unlike us, Riot is actually smart in looking at past "enjoy"-ances, and what players liked in the past. Using this, they build off that, and throw out wild ideas here and there, and they usually hit the nail on the head. Lets go over a few examples. Remember the juggernaut rework? Alot of people kept screaming that the rework shouldn't happen, as it "cut down garen's power", and that "mordekaiser shouldn't be AD based. His burst won't be the same!". Then they actually got reworked, and all 4 juggernauts had insane playrates, and all had some pretty good winrates. Garen was extrememly powerful, and mordekaiser out did all ADC's for a while. Naturally, people eventually realized that juggernauts were suseptable to extreme kite, and Morde eventually fell out of the heavy burst AD role, and went out of Meta for the longest time. Moving along, lets talk about courage of the collosis. Everyone thought it would be this insanely broken rune, and it would be the new thunderlords. In fact, many people figured it would be immensely strong on champions such as annie or yasuo, champions who can cc entire teams. However, courage was strong, yet not overly broken. Now, lets talk about the marksmen season. Everyone kept screaming how they were removing sword of the occult, but keeping mejais. However, could you imagine if they had kept sword of the occult in the game with reworked ADCs? Riot learned that we as a playerbase need to to adjust and learn, and from what they saw, they figured that marksmen would be hard to fight and have a high winrate: and they were right. If these marksmen had sword of the occult, it would make the game far less enjoyable for a losing team, as the more the died while trying to learn these new marksmen, the further behind they got. On the subject of Marksmen, let's talk about graves. When riot revealed the graves rework, children screamed, saying he would be weak af. "He can only do 2 autos at a time? He's gonna be so weak in comparison with other marksmen, seeing how his attack range is so low! Also, his autos can't go through minions? How are we gonna trade?!?!?!!?" It was all valid points: graves was quite mediocre at best at botlane. However, someone noted that all these traits graves had were of a great jungler. Then everyone was like "ah shit ur right!", then graves was a powerhouse jungler who could solo carry, bursting down all lanes, while being overall healthy in jungle sustain. It was about 7 months before riot finally nerfed graves, the marksmen who was deemed unplayable-y weak to extremely broken. Let's talk about the plants. When riot introduced the plants, pitchforks were brought out, and people wanted to burn riot. Everyone thought the blastcone would provide some "unfair escapes", the scrying (or the blue) plant would " be so broken, as it would let the entire team see who was where", and the juicy fruit would "provide unfair jungler sustain". Then the plants were released. and people adapted to the plants. It was incredible, and everyone loved the plants. They loved the daring plays they could do with blastcone, the 2 extra ganks they could do, thanks to the juicy fruit, and the scrying plant? Well, people mainly used it to peep for wards in dragon/baron pit ( it was aight). Lastly, lets talk about Asol, Taliyah, Bard, and Jhin. When all these champs were released, they were extremely weak, and everyone flamed riot for creating an "unviable kit". However, after about a month or 2, and a few buffs, people realized that these champs were extremely strong, causing some nerfs here and there.
Why did I bring all this up again? Oh yeah. Guys. We're stupid, and we don't know jack shit. You all look at the warding decrease and think riot is stupid. However, while theres the argument that this change was only to make the game appear more exciting, I've seen games where players don't ward their lane in general. This change might force players who don't ward to ward more, and might cause players to buy vision wards more frequently. We won't get used to this vision change for a bit I imagine, but once we do, I imagine the meta will shift a bit, and perhaps we'll get to see how easy the game was in the past with 3 minutes of vision in a ward, who knows. Just wait and see how this goes before bitching about it.
