How do you even play Shen S7?

Firstly Im new to league and everyone tells me Shen is really bad S7. He is supposedly tanky but he does not feel tanky at all, I do not understand his playing style either. (I main Singed and Annie) I do not understand how Shen is even a fair matchup against amy adc champ. He can barely take hits until he is like level 14(even with runes). All said and done Idk how to play him so if someone could help me out here it would be great!

If you can't proc empowered Q you can't win fights.

E Q wait for them to kill your passive shield hit W then disengage, if they keep chasing pull Q through them for a second trade.

If its a lane you can't win, youre gonna lose out on CS. Play passive and hunt for good ult opportunities.

Master the taunt flash, for those situations you absolutely have to hit your CC.

Some of my observations from playing Shen:

  • Keep your spirit sword close to hand, the shorter distance it has to travel to you, the better you can use it.

  • Trading properly is very important, try to line up your Q so the sword travels through your opponent, that way your 3 Q buffed swings are easier to land on the slowed opponent.

  • Speaking of your spirit sword, during prolonged skirmishes always be moving in a way that's mindful of your swords position, try to keep the enemy between you and your sword

  • Don't blow your W right away every time. Wait for the perfect time to use it when it can absorb the most damage.

  • When you aren't actively fighting an opponent and you're just chilling in lane, use your Q on cooldown to get that sweet, sweet sustain.

  • Shen's bread and butter combo: E into enemy > auto > Q (so sword goes through enemy preferably, this is usually the case when you dash through the enemy anyways) > auto, auto, auto > W > auto, auto. Once you've blown your load, dip out, then rinse and repeat when your E is back up. If you pull it off correctly, you should win most trades, even against strong duelists.

Shen isn't in that bad of a place right now. Sure, he's a bit harder to play than he was before, but his new and improved kit is capable of so much more than he was before.

I found when it comes to late game team fights with shen its best to just peel for the ADC. It usually ends bad when you taunt into the whole enemy team because you have just blown your only means of escape. Unless you can get a pick with taunt flash. Learning how to taunt flash is super important, and thats not flashing and taunting, thats easy. But by flashing just before the end of your taunt nobody can react to it fast enough, and you can flash at an angle to so you taunt in a straight line then at the end flash at a different angle for the sweet sweet flashy plays. Just go into the practice tool and put auto refresh CD on and put a dumby down and practice it.

Shen needs an auto reset on his Q, do it and you'll fix every problem he has both nerf and buff wise.

Shen is not a champion you HAVE to build full tank with. I had fun going a tanky damage build using titanic hydra, ice gauntlet or tri force, deadmans plate, black cleaver, MAW, and if you are feeling kinky enough you can build a BORK or rageblade. You have the ability to tank and hurt

Shen is very powerful right now with what might be the best trades of a melee champion in the game to let him transition into a high-utility split pusher.
