Outside of making the game fun to watch, should Rito balance the game?
I'm not talking about never touching the game again or never fixing things that are gamebreaking glitches or whatever.
I'm talking about massive updates in the middle of seasons, mana cost reductions, base damage/ratio changes, or minor tweaks. A lot of what Riot labels as 'quality of life' tends to be 'protection against stupid.' That isn't to say I WANT people to waste Sona's pchord on wards. However, when you do more than simply add some UI elements by changing Azir's soldier AI/responsiveness, that stops becoming a mere QoL change and a potentially game changing balance decision.
Then there is the issue of professional play having to adapt EXTREMELY quickly, and even then they fall short because each player has their own playstyle.
While I applaud Riot for trying to make their game fun for all players, the patch rate is so quick that it almost seems like 'just wait for Riot to balance it' is a better, more viable option than 'ok, how can I adapt my playstyle?'
This game is so interconnected that even if your champion doesn't get hit or helped for an entire season, their efficacy will wax and wane due to the competition and general strategy. Would Shyvana have remained on top for an exceedingly long time if she hadn't been nerfed? I don't know, and we will never know because she was nerfed 2 patches after her buffs.
Again, I applaud Riot for wanting to make their game fun for as many people as possible, but is this strategy of almost constant intervention really better or more satisfying to players than letting the players hash it out among themselves? With every new release of champion, item, and season, players get more room to work with, more toys to play with, more potential solutions to their problems. At least for a single season. Between seasons, have at it.
