Sympathy for griefers?

I have noticed a new trend in the League community, and it's quite sickening really. It always goes like this:

Team A: A player obviously goes out of their way to either afk, or dive into the enemy team repeatedly, to the point where there is no rational exception as to why they are doing it other than the facts that they are griefing, or angry about something and want their team to pay for it, or end the game sooner.

A player on team A then politely asks the players on team B to take note of what they are doing, and to report them after the game so it does not happen to future teams from the same offending player.

Several players on team B decide to further antagonize the player politely asking for the reports, by threatening to report them, and dismissing the offending player's actions as "lag", when it is obviously not the case.

Something many seem to forget is that reports exist not in a report = ban fashion, but in a statistical sense, a player who repeatedly gets reported for leaving the game/afk/feeding, will receive a ban, a player who only gets one every now and then, will not need to worry. But when people do not report for fear of punishing "the wrong" person (even when it's incredibly obvious what is happening), it contributes to letting these people roam free, if you have terrible internet, it shouldn't be anyone else's problem but your own, you should find another game, if it's just a DC because your ISP is doing maintenance or whatever, then there's nothing to worry about, several reports from one game won't make a difference.

In short, League is becoming more and more toxic by the day, to the point where I'm really debating quitting, I've been playing since Season 1, I feel that when I say I have noticed a significant decline in the past few months, since about Ekko's release, I have some ground to stand on. I hate how egotistical people have become, and how reports have lost their value due to people simply not caring anymore. Toxicity breeds toxicity, if you enjoy being angry, then by all means, do not report, but if you just want to peacefully have fun kicking each other's asses, then please, use the report button vigilantly, and encourage others to do the same. I don't want to quit, but if things continue without change, I can't see myself enjoying this game much longer.

You don't need to ask others to report a player. One report is sufficient. Additional reports on the same player in a game are ignored by the system. Consequently, asking others to report a player is often taken badly by others.

Another thing is, that apparently asking for reports is technically bannable.

I quit playing for 4 months and decided to come back and see if things got better, and they have gotten worse. I too have been in it since the start and the ego thing hits the nail on the head. I truely believe its all this craze about the LCS, Riots number one revenue source being blown out of proportion with everything and plastered all over the frontpage worse then budweiser logos at NASCAR. Everyone wants to be a pro, and now rank means literally everything. No longer can you find some random people that you genuinly liked to play with and just play with them for the night. Its all about the next division, the next LCS play, the next time you should fight for jungle so you can talon autolock because a pro did it. And these kids who eat this right up have expanding egos that get worse by the day. Ive realized the community isnt the only thing that is toxic and rotten to the core, the game itself and what its based on is too. It hurts me to think that people like you and me helped bring this game to where it is now, by enjoying it for what it was, until greed took over. And now we are neglected on the sidelines with our oldschool mains that either get ignored or destroyed by the balance teams. Things are looking quite bleek i must say.
