Viktor needs buffs

I really like this character, but I honestly feel like he needs more buffs than his shield.

I've played a bunch of games in silver with him, and my friends are always telling me to main someone else instead because of how easy it is for him to fall behind and become useless to carry with. I come from Dota 2 and only been playing this game for 2 years, and I honestly don't feel like playing any other characters because of how binary and boring their playstyle is. I had many games where I would go even in lane, but then the enemy ekko/zed/fizz/lux/anivia/xerath/etc would just randomly out damage me after first back, forcing me to play safe where I was previously even in lane.

Based on this, here's where I feel like he should be buffed:

  • His laser should have a higher ap ratio in first strike or at least a shorter aftershock delay. I see tanks do more damage to carries with one ability than viktor's dodgable lazers.
  • Hexcore should be cheaper, because 1250 gold cost pretty much forces you to upgrade lazer first instead of w or q. When playing against mobile characters like ekko with more powerful slows and burst damage, I'd rather upgrade q instead of e - but I don't think it's worth the cost.
  • The ult in my opinion is a good way to burst with q and e, but it is so clunky and unrewarding afterwards to move around. The damage also feels like it falls off late game, I feel like it should also have higher ap ratios just like the lazer.
  • W should have some kind of damage amplification effect, stronger slow, or something else on upgrade, because I hate seeing random zeds/ekko/katarina/etc just stand on my W under tower while 100-0-ing me, and then still out damage me while tanking 2 tower shots with all my abilities landing on them. It is impossible to outplay characters with poor positioning early/mid game if you're even with enemy laner- you always have to snowball and get kills early to do good for the rest of the game.

This is just what I think, but I'm thinking about just switching viktor with lux for midlane since she can fall behind and still be useful unlike viktor. My other midlane pick is kassadin, but I think he's also another character who can easily get punished and become useless. I know this community is more involved with the company than dota is, so I'm hoping some riot employee would consider it. What do other viktor mains think about this character?

Issue with Viktor lies in the state of the game and his reliance on his team.

I'm a Viktor main but I'm currently not playing him much (and not winning when I do play him).

His issue stems from requiring lots of gold and time to come online, if your team feeds or if you get behind in lane you basically do 0 damage. The current meta is super snowbally so it really doesn't favour him.

Viktor is very reactive and not proactive, if your team is behind Viktor doesn't have much to work off of, if your team comp is bad and lacks peel he's forced to try make his own plays which leaves him open to being jumped on by a tank or bruiser. If you waste your W or someone gets around it all you have is damage to try defend yourself, so when the enemy have a lead you get stomped.

His numbers aren't that off, but I'd like a small ratio or damage buff somewhere. They said they didn't like buffing his ult ratio as it was used to blow up squishes (as opposed to what, I dunno), maybe they could buff his ult to where each pulse does more damage to targets that already got hit with a pulse. That way he isn't blowing up squishes but he's rewarded for keeping targets in the Chaos Storm.

Edit; he also chugs mana, Hexcore is his mana item but it offers 0 mana regen. A lot of Viktors I've seen on streams are actually building Tear at the moment.

The Hexcore upgrade costs should be reversed, 750 for the first upgrade, 1250 for the last.

All of these problems become moot if you follow this simple build guide item 3048 item 3198 item 3222 item 3048 item 3040 item 3048, as you'll never take any damage.

Its true, Victor is outdated like many other champions, this game is totally unbalanced. Ashe generation heroes are unmobile, new generation heroes can jump across map.....Victor is unmobile, every jumper have terrible advantages against him. His ulti is just joke. He need rework

Q has good damage with lichbane, but in last game he is totaly lost, his ulti do nothing, traps is good, but its the only things what victor do before he died, OLD BUILD Victor was much better! upgrade add range to use stun trap.

But what riot said? Who care, we need money.

Buffing his E is not the way to go. Then you just have Viktor afk shoving waves again

That champ is so unbelievably unbalanced. I just came out of a game 6/8 vs him top as Darius and his damage is more or less fine maybe a little stronger but his shield and mobility is completely broken. As Darius not being able to lock him down at all is hilarious. And his mama never runs out. On top of that his laser range is so stupid and it has no animation. So he doesn’t waste anytime fucking your shit up.

I’m conclusion maybe make his abilities so a little more damage but he CAN NOT have that kind of mobility with no cast animations. His movement speed and shield are completely broken.

I can't really say what Sweedish Gunner Said any better than they did so here's my sentiments on your bullet points.

  • Buffing his laser's damage is tricky. For a fast moving aoe that passes through targets at no cost to damage it does good damage. If it only cost 90 mana at max rank it would be pretty fair. The main problem with Deathray is that the waveclear from his augment twists its value.

  • Once again Aftershock's waveclear twists the value of hexcore. So long as it exists as a waveclear tool it will always be required. I would love for his wave control to be pushed into his base kit and for the augment to not effect wavclear at all. Imo it would ultimately lead to a healthier champion that was easier to balance.

  • I don't think his ult really has any super significant problems, and it's O.K. that it is never really the star of the show. Q & E are his bread and butter and that's fine.

  • I agree that W augment is very lack luster. The vacuum effect is neat, but is ultimately the worst augment. In a perfect world where Viktor choses his Augments situationally I would like to see gravity field's augment as something you would buy first if you needed it.

I feel Viktor actually needs some heavier work besides some number changes. Imo that work should be centered around decoupling his waveclear from his augment, and around making W augment more satisfying when you purchase it.

To be honest I think his passive needs to be like GP ult and not take up a slot. Because playing Viktor my starting items look like this

item 2003 or item 2031 item 2419 item 1056 item 3200 meaning if I back and get item 3802 I have to pick between no boots or nothing else to help turn that Lost Chapter into a final item.

Most of his damage is hard to dodge (his E has a fairly long range and no cast time, Q is point and click), and im afraid of buffs just turning him into meta for LCS again. He has been nerfed several times because of just being so good.

I played him earlier today and I play him situationally, I don't think he's too bad right now. If I were Riot, I'd be very careful of what theyre doing to Viktor. You can definetely feel the hexcore price nerf, and it is something i want to see partially reverted. (maybe like 1150/1000/850?)
