@Riot - thoughts on plants?
Plants were introduced to add a random component to the jungle in order to encourage players to "think on their feet", resulting in more interesting gameplay. Now that we're well into Season 7, I'm curious to know if Riot feels they have hit the mark, especially in comparison with old smite buffs.
Personally, I feel plants are actually more predictable and linear than old smite buffs. Is there a blast cone up in the enemies jg? If yes, I can risk an invade, if not then I have to be more careful. Is there a Scryer's Bloom up? No reason not to use it to either clear wards or get vision on an area. Walking past a honeyfruit? Are you near full hp/mana? If yes, then don't take it, otherwise take it
There's very little reason not to use a plant if you walk by it unless a) you're saving it for later, or b) you're leaving it to a teammate. As a jungle main, I've found the system more restrictive and linear than camp buffs - you didn't just have to manage your smite use back then in order to have it off CD when needed, but you also had to choose between utility and combat buffs. I feel this made the jungle as interactive as it's ever been, and much of this has been lost with the new plant system, despite its potential for cool plays
That's not to say plants are all bad, but I think they should tweak them to make spawn locations more random. Blast cones and Scryer's Blooms are always at exactly the same spot, while you just have to walk around river to find a Honeyfruit. Making plan spawn locations more random wouldn't just make the jungle more interactive, it'd also force players to put more thought into their use and to "think more on their feet" as Riot initially wanted. Right now, I feel the biggest impact plants have is to forgive bad plays through escape/sustain
TL;DR : plants are OK, but do they really hit the mark? Are they better than camp buffs at this point?
