A few things all supports should learn.

I've played alot of Support since I started League. Support and Jungle probably being my best roles. I've also been playing a large amount of ADC. And while I've been ADC, I've had some great supports, some bad supports and some just "okay" supports.

But with all the things supports have to do, peeling, healing, initiating, warding, etc. I've noticed that only a handful, a very small amount, understand something very important.

Minion control.

What I mean by this is that alot of supports are scared to touch the wave. I guess that's probably because of low elo ADC mains. But I can assure you as a support player myself that it's okay. So what exactly should the support do with the minions without messing with with wave?

  • Learning to help your ADC last hit under turret.

This is the most important thing I have ever learned while I learned support. It's invaluable and will net you easily 3 or more CS under the turret. Most know that melee minions take four turret shots to die, the third is low enough for the ADC to last hit early. But the ranged minions require two hits. However, if the ranged is hit once at full health, the ADC generally doesn't have enough AD to last hit it. This is where the support comes in, hitting it once so the ADC can get that last hit.

This is probably really basic, but I've hardly seen a support do it besides myself in Silver (Sure as hell not in bronze) and gold. But learning how to hit the minions low enough for the ADC under turret will mean if the enemy shoves the wave, you don't lose as much CS and they put themselves in a bad spot (Ganks)

  • Shoving the wave

Again, most supports have a fear of even touching the wave. But every support needs to learn when it's acceptable to shove. (Note: Normally the ADC will explain if they want to shove out the lane, freeze it, or reset the lane.) If the ADC is brain-dead, the support should take the initiate. When the enemy bot recalls, always shove to turret. If you are winning the lane, and have proper ward coverage, it's a good idea to agressively shove the wave while harassing. If the enemy ADC is is shoving hard, lets say Sivir, but the support is just standing around, shove and harass. If you plan on backing for an item, shove the lane out then recall.

These are just a few examples, again basic stuff and you always have to make calls based on the situation.

  • Stalling/proxy.

Basically just running up to an incoming wave to stop it while your minions move up.

  • Pulling the lane.

This is actually not something I'd expect from either an ADC or support in low elo. And I can't properly explain it without a wall of text. But if you want to learn how to do this there are alot of great guides, youtube is popular for it.

And so on and so on. These are just some examples of lane control that I could think of. There's ALOT more, but these seem the most important.

TL;DR: If you want to become a better support (Or ADC!) it's important to learn about minion control. It seems to be the part most supports either don't do or don't know about. Warding, harass and trades, positioning, peeling and so forth seem to be pretty common. Remember this is just my opinion on what supports seem to forget about. K, rant over.

  • P.S: Remember the most important aspect of bottom lane is synergy. If you can't read your ADC or your Support, all your mechanics will be for naught. This is the reason most bottom lanes will either do extremely well or extremely poorly. But synergy isn't something that can be learned so don't hate on your lane partner too much. And don't yell at bottom for doing poorly.

Helping ADC CS under turret as Sona is a bitch because she might have passive or Q buff ready though XD
