6.16 Patch: Thoughts on 6.16 Sona
Here's various thoughts I have on the upcoming patch's changes on Sona.
-
These nerfs are good for her. Doing this, as I'll explain below, has the Champion be less offensive and more cautious in battle...as a Mage AND Support with CC and other effects that can turn the tide of battle for her allies, this should be obvious.

Now we're getting to talking of her abilities, starting with E. Over the last patch, Sona's made herself and allies feel WAY too quick to feel comfortable against in a teamfight -- mainly, she's been acting as THE definition of what you want for Late Game support...disregarding her Q damage and W heal/shield, as well as the respective buffs/debuffs Q and W offer to ally and enemy alike, the MS buff she gives her opponents feels more like what we're going to be seeing on Kled in 6.16: zooming into battle at mach speed and going all HAM, but unlike him Sona's able to stay with her allies as she can move freely. Slowing her down is a very good move.

Now to talk about her R. First off, free CDR is unfair but it's done wonders for Sona getting a niche so I'll hold off on complaining about the new Passive's existence until another time. About the reduction in CDR, I'd have to say I agree with how it's changed. Because she loses some Early Game presence from her Q/W/E, lowering her overall damage output and supportive utility during the Early Game, she's not as oppressive to go against during this time. Before, it was far too much of a powerspike because she could jump from 0% to 20% in a snap, and then it burns off for its 2nd and 3rd ranks until it reaches 40%. Now, it'll be more gradual instead of a jump which makes both sides feel better; 10/15/15 increase feels far better (with or against Sona) than 20/10/10 increase, because it's easier for everyone -- you, your allies, and your enemies -- to get used to.

The Arcade and DJ Sona VFX changes should be interesting. Mainly, her visual effects for these skins are getting increased in size to account for her gameplay changes. Not really game-changing, but it should be more pleasing on the eyes...since I recently bought DJ Sona, I'll get to see how this change affects my gameplay. If it does, and this topic is actually talked on, I'll share my thoughts on it here. Otherwise, I might make a new topic discussing that.
What are your thoughts on Sona in the new patch, or on the new patch in general? If you haven't read the notes, here's the link. I hope to hear your opinions!
