Why are tanks getting more and more damage?

I thought we were boosting defense and lowering offense? Why does Galio have a ton of damage and now Amumu is getting true damage? These guys don't need it.

because the majority of Galio's damage can miss

it's not like Amumu Sejuani Maokai Nautilus Zac where they just idly piss out AoE damage to everyone just for standing next to them

It's almost like when they said the Assassin update was to give more counterplay to the assassins, and look at how they turned out.

Tanks are usually supposed to hurt early game but fall off damage wise late. This is so that they can interact and possibly win against their opponents in lane and jungle.

Though Anumu's curse is only turning allied magic damage into true last I checked.

The change to Amumu benefits his allies more than him. It's actually quite a healthy change. Tanks themselves shouldn't be dealing a ton of damage; they should enable their team to do so.

You seem to have failed to look at the math on Amumu's new passive. tl;dr: compared to his old passive it's a weaker damage amp against squishy targets but a stronger amp against tanks building MR. It also is designed to benefit Amumu's teammates more than Amumu himself. Additionally, Galio was designed to be a mage-tank hybrid, so of course he's going to do damage because that's what he's designed to do.

Amumu's passive change isn't really a buff, it does pretty much the same thing but in a way that's more visible to players so they stop forgetting he has a passive.

The power change will be reducing his damage to squishy targets and increasing damage to other tanks.
