Please Riot, institute an effective Tribunal

Listen, this isn't going to another cherry picked, half assed, pathetic rantabout how "nob plyaers fede my gaem such feggits"

I'm being serious when I say that. I recently picked league BACK up after family matters left me in a state of depression so bad I hung from a rafter only to be cut down, hospitalized, and institutionalized for about 3 weeks. I'm much better, and fine now. My point being: I knew I was rusty. I played bots to ease back in, ran about 20-30 normals a week for about 2 weeks after getting back. Made sure I got back in the swing of things and really made sure I was ready for the potential frustration of Bronze 5.

.....I needed more lube.

First game. AFK'd on, after he'd solidly fed Diana mid 3 levels ahead of everyone else. Steamrolled. Nothing too major. I was jungler so I naturally caught a whirlwind shit storn for "Not ganking more". Mind you I had just enough gold to finally finish my jungle Item... at 15 minutes. Because I was frantically trying to save top and mid. No biggie, go on with my life.

Game 2: Mid does Ok, our Thresh was a "Madlife wannabe" who landed literally two hooks on enemy champions the entire game. Our jungler was pretty okay, saved my bacon a lot, I was adc and struggled hard as the enemy anivia was really good with her stuns and graves got an early double. Top lane trynd then feeds a losing Garen until he is sitting pretty at level 15 when the closest other person was our jung at 10. Needless to say, he steamrolls our bot lane, and Graves get's fed alongside Anivia. We lost. Badly. Team rages everyone blames everyone, my life goes on although I want to calm down a bit.

I go get a soda, cool off. Tell myself it's just a game.... Game 3: I'm top lane nasus. I'm doing okay until mid, and jungle camp my lane together and our mid comes top to feed them, and my two early kills on this Fiora are totally negated because of this now and we get rolled. But because Ziggs goes and plays "Clean-up Crew" with our Shaco who was equally unfed, they get the right to call me a "Fucking faggot piece of shit." "Learn to fucking play a champ before ranked" "Go back to normals" "Fucking N*****" (You can guess what that word was) "Build tank you dumb fucking whore." So then Graves and Blitz chime in and I get to be the punching bag for a group of jackasses because I 3 kills from being positive and Fiora, annie, and Yi are fed.

I broke my mouse. Then punched a refrigerator hard enough to leave a knuckle imprint in it's stainless steel door. Absolutely livid.

I guess the point of all this is for the Love of Christ, Buddha, Allah, Cernunnos, Morrigan, Yaweh, Jehovah, Amatarasu, or whomever you pray to... Please fix the matchmaking system. Or institute a Tribunal again for Ranked only. Or something. I've not always been a moral exemplar of a player, and I wouldn't lie to you and say that. I've been a horrid bastard at times. I made amends and served my various chat bans and temp bans for that. I've started muting people, and controlling my chat and focusing on playing again. I'm not saying I'm some Plat1 Master tier god race player. I'm maybe silver 2 quality. I've got a lot to work on. But, these people? Make me want to quit. The community is the only reason I don't enjoy playing at times. The only problem with this game is the fucking community. Otherwise you have a game that is free to play, consistently monitored for bugs, and gets fresh updates and patchwork. Add in the fact that if you work hard and get enough skill you can be internationally recognized? Even make money? Hell yeah! sounds perfect. But the community needs to have a serious cleaning up. You update champs, you update skills, and maps, and game types, and everything else. So update the community a little. Give exemplary players the ability to judge cases. Give players the ability to appeal cases, and give game footage as proof. A lot of bans and what not are situation. Some days I have a couple good games, and I do great. Others I get slaughtered. Why should I get "feeding" bans for that? Or be punished? Look at past transgressions, and if a person had a bad day and got in trouble once then punish them less than the guy who AFKs 5 times a months and calls everyone he meets a "Fucking faggot" Offer a REAL Player moderated Tribunal. Or a riot staffed one. But give the ability to appeal cases, provide us with a match and report history, hell, if you gave me a replay of some of my matches I'm sure I'd probably go "Yeah, I could see why I deserved the report there." I know a couple of matches where I should'v been permabanned for how I acted. Surprised I didn't, to be honest.

I'm not asking for much.

  1. A non-autonomous tribunal system.
  2. a Report history we can actually access, so we can see where and why we need to improve.
  3. The ability to appeal for a redacting of, or lessening of our sentence.
  4. Actual in-game footage of the Matches in question with a chat-log.
  5. Good players rewarded with something a little more than stupid ribbons.
  6. True vitriol spitting jerks to get ACTUALLY punished, while the guy who just has a couple bad games and get mouthy once or twice to get a lesser sentence. This isn't that hard. Other game companies half your size do it. And do it well. If you instituted an effective tribunal system that cleaned up player attitude and was less caustic.... You would have so many new players and their money. Seriously. I know 10 people off the top of my head that would play but just don't want to deal with the community. If each of those people play til Lv30, and buy at least 3 non 450ip champs.... You are making somewhere in what... $1,400 in revenue stream? You guys get commission for number of players. That's how you do free-to-play, and microtransactions are actually pretty effective. So seriously. Just try to fix this, and you'll see the results.

UPDATE: Just checked my match history, and NONE of my normals are in there. So add another thing to the frickin' pile of things Riot needs to fix. All of my Co-op vs AI are in there.... SO where the hell are my normals?

We had a Tribunal. It was awesome. Then it went down for "maintenance" and we never saw it again... I'd like that back.

GL with the RL issues btw, that shit sucks to get through.

"The community is the only reason I don't enjoy playing at times."

This is what Riot needs to look into. Some of your players are actually ruining what should be a fun game for us other players

So good news bad news. Tribunal is coming back, with first parts starting in May. Gonna start out automated still and add stuff as they go. Starts with giving reform cards out and giving better feedback so people can reform easier.

On another note, I've struggled w/ depression and anger in the past (still some today, but 300mg of Lamictal every day helps a lot :D), and my advice would be use mute more liberally. The game doesn't matter as much since if you focus on improving your game you'll get better (I just went from bronze 3 to silver4-5 this way, and when I lose a couple games on a streak I get to wreck people when my MMR drops and suddenly I'm better than most at that MMR). The biggest thing is to still have fun while growing as a player. 9 times in 10 it doesn't start with "you're a shit eating noob feeder, go fucking kill yourself" but they say something like, "God I wish we had a real mid" or "OMG how did you fucking die to that?" At that point you can either say hey, I go on tilt easy so I'm gonna mute you, ping if you need something, and mute them, or ask them to be polite so you don't go on tilt and play worse, and mute them if they don't.

Honestly if you suffer from depression the ABSOLUTE BEST thing you can do for yourself if you're gonna play LOL is to mute the fuck out of people. There are a ton of games w/ negative players who I play with and I have no idea what the chat log looks like for others bc I have 2 or 3 people muted. I play better when I'm not worrying about how much I don't like the guy I'm playing with and don't want him to win, so it's better for me to mute than hope that 1 in 100 things they say is useful information that helps us win. Sounds like you might have the same issue as me and just need to mute more and worry about what you're doing on your champ rather than if you lose. (IE, don't feed on Nasus when they all come top, have it warded and ping for help then back off when your team doesn't come and let he jungle rage when you farm jungle to try and catch back up. It may still lose you the game but it's the best option since it doesn't give over kills at all.)

plat and lower games are so funny. just so troll all you can do is laugh tbh. taking any elo besides the top3% serious is really a waste of your time, you'll be so stressed I'm sure.

CompleteCheat5/6/2015, 6:10:27 PM2 votes

I realize you don't get to choose your team in Solo Queue and maybe you could benefit from learning how I deal with those guys. It's aggravating when my teammate blows a mistake out of proportion and begins trolling me. And it's even harder for me to receive such negative handling without lashing back. I play a lot of LoL, I mean a lot of LoL, so I naturally make a lot of mistakes. And mistakes in competitive games with strangers tend to bring out the worst in people. In the past I would deny mistakes, or try to make light of my error, or even push blame for what I did as the result of a teammates action. I still do sometimes, and I'm sometimes right. But when I'm playing and I get really upset... and the game ends but I'm still fuming from something a teammate said... I want to continue playing, start a new game and have some fun while kicking @#$... but at the same time... I'm very reluctant to hit play and to potentially experience again whatever it was I went through... In a game composed of complete strangers, whom I will probably never see again, those strangers have made me feel negative.

I don't like that. Personally, I don't get angry immediately, and I am usually none too bothered by what my teammates say. But sometimes I derp, and derp hard, and that one guy -maybe even the entire team consists of that "one guy"- will speak up and say "WTF Bro? GG". They usually don't say it as pleasantly but even if they do it's not any better. With the ranked environment as competitive as it is, I am usually trying my best and it's really embarrassing when I screw up and get called out on it. I tend to get angry at the person or people who treat me poorly for a mistake. And whenever I have a game that really just makes me feel negative, I know that it almost always begins with something I did or I simply would not be so upset. Whether I own up to my mistakes (sometimes I will, I'm definitely not perfect lol) or not, the games that make me feel worst are always, always, always the ones where I am at fault. It's even worse when everyone on the team knows it, worse yet when they say it. There's only one thing I know to do that makes me feel like I can hit play again. I just think. I sit and I think. I think back on the turning points of the games and I try to be honest with myself. I usually start with examining whatever led to my teammates being negative toward me and work out from there. When I find one or two things that I can take out of the game as something learned then that whole game was worth it for me. And there's always something to be learned, otherwise I wouldn't feel the way I do. But I'll take those "lessons learned" like that quote about the hot coal, and I'll hold them in my head, and I'll drop the rest of the game from memory. The only thing I want burned into my mind is what can help me navigate past any similar encounters in the future.

That's just how I handle it though. I have master friends that rage all the time, nothing as bad as you've described, but their way works for them. But whatever you're doing is clearly not working out for you, try changing it up for a while. I also have lower ranking friends that get really really really upset over losing even the most menial game of LoL, come on man Xd. They have their own way of "coping" with these kinds of losses (it usually involves tilting for so many games that they don't remember what started it) and they seem to become apathetic but you kinda need to care in order to win. I'm saying be apathetic to what your randomly matched teammates say, not the game. If you really need to then just mute them. I find that I sometimes need to be told I screwed up, however bluntly put, in order to better myself.

It may be really hard to do during the game, when the actions up, and when everyone is being critical and pedantic, but afterwards just try to make the game matter for something. Don't let them bad game tax dollars go to waste ;p

On a separate note,

The only problem with this game is the fucking community.

That has been said about every, single, freaking game and most of the LoL community is not a problem compared to other games but it often seems to me that people with the thinnest skin are the loudest. And Riot has put more effort into improving LoL's problem with their buzzword "toxicity" than just about any other online game you can name (anything past a mute/ban feature is awesome imo). They even put incentives into the game for people to be positive. Ultimately, if you want to have the opportunity to socialize with teammates and enemies in a healthy way you have to accept that there will be some negative experiences. The most important thing is how you personally handle it, heck, you might even be the common denominator.

TL;DR Wall of text meant for OP and anyone who shares his experiences as an alternative process to dealing with ranked loss, one that doesn't involve breaking your mouse. And there's a side note about the quote because OP mentioned one of my pet peeves, also this isn't really a TL;DR, rektya.

Edit: I just read your post OP, and it looks like you got banned for raging, are upset but not sorry, and you're saying it's not your fault -- it's society's. I think you'll be mad after you read this edit, bet you are.

They need to make it so we can report people while in game and not after.

I've come to realize that riot uses the # of trolls in the game to increase attrition rates in the US so they don't have to spend money on over head.

Basically riot figured out that by the time a person gets fed up and quits from being fed up with the absurd amount of trolls in the game they have already spent the bulk of the cash they are likely to spend. It's a timing thing. This means they stop taking up server space so new players can come in who haven't spent their money yet but will. So riot (who always ignores threads like this, closed down the trib, closed the PB section, and rarely bans people who deserve it but often bans the ones who talk back to the trolls) doesn't want the trolls to go away.

Kalaj5/6/2015, 1:57:40 PM2 votes

Idk if you ever read anything that is league of legends, but they've been talking about how they are recreating a new and improved tribunal . SOONtm

OhPleaseKnotMe5/7/2015, 6:18:34 AM2 votes

I drag the chat box off the screen and i never type anything in game chat ever this is because lyte has said in all the time hes been working at riot hes never seen nor heard of anyone ever getting any type of action taken against their account for not talking in game. . .ever kind of annoying but u take the chat box, throw off screen and you dont have to read all the nonsense, i dont really report people at the end game cuz its a waste of my time and quite frankly i dont care also it seems the OP has been banned. . .hhmm too bad so sad XD

Sona Ping5/7/2015, 4:02:20 PM2 votes

If you are looking for a fun, non-stressful, video game experience League of Legends, especially ranked, especially Bronze 5 Ranked, is not the place to look for it.

Check out some reviews for recommendations, maybe Totalbiscuit for example, and pick up a great new game. Have fun and stay healthy Tenshiu (NA)!

PROJECT Bear5/7/2015, 5:51:00 PM2 votes

don't take things so seriously. it's a game. yes you invest time and effort in it, but it's a game. meant to exercise your brain, improve your skill, have a good time. I don't like it either when people are toxic, but you need to learn some detachment for the sake of your mind and everyone else.

lolipopevelynn5/7/2015, 1:55:46 AM2 votes

{quoted} snip

i do agree with you and you are right on alot of things you said, but i honestly think guys like you should NOT play games like league. you need a more casual or calm game like hearthstone where people wont make you so upset or depressed.

i know full well how much of a jackass people can be in this game, but it doesnt bother me at all unless the person in question is raging so hard that they go afk or cost us a win because of typing to much. then i get upset just at the fact that i lost to stupid shit, but not at all upset at what x player said to me or others on the team.

point is, if you get completely livid at the shit that peopl do in game that you go punching refrigerators you need to NOT play a game like league.

if you insist on playing this game then i HIGHLY INSIST you put everyone on mute the INSTANT the game starts. this is the best solution for you and anyone else like you. if you cant do either of these things then im sorry, but RIP. you WILL go insane. beleive it or not but it actually gets WORSE past bronze 5. bronze 5 is actually tame because everyone there know they are bad. when you get to silver and higher you get the ego fools who think they are better than they actually are. the silvers that think they belong in challenger.

JChaosMaster5/6/2015, 5:35:53 PM1 votes

I still dont understand how you can be banned for not playing well. I always worry because I spent alot of money on my account.

MalaceX5/7/2015, 9:26:39 PM1 votes

Before the game starts, type "/mute all" in chat. Enjoy.

P.S. Powerbats trolls the boards often. Just ignore him and he'll go away... eventually.
