because keeping the game balanced for people being able to enjoy it : it is the hardest and the most important job in league. Morello did it perfectly until he was transfered on the new project, he was replaced by ghostcrawler and then meddler. That's when things began to change runes reforged, unbalance nightmares and others... it began during season 7...

Rumors are that he is working on new game for Riot.

Also, boards were acting totally in the same way as today, calling him idiot and stuff, begging for his replacement. Boards never changes.

Morello balanced for the 95% of players that weren't diamond primarily, and high level play second. I don't remember him being a particularly high ranked player himself. He favored nerfs over buffs, and this kept games longer and more rewarding to play, even if sometimes his efforts made a champ feel like a shiny cannon minion.

Current balance prioritizes pro play, what is "fun/flashy" to supposedly see there, and higher level play, often invalidating or waiting several patches to address overbearing pubstompers and balance nightmares common at less heavenly heights of elo, even while they invalidate and gut for many many patches champions that might pose an issue in pro play (How dare they be viable for the unwashed masses!) Ryze SejuaniShen .

Most of the current balance team is Diamond. Consequently, they haven't the faintest idea how the majority of the playerbase feels playing their damage-leaden, complexity driven, snowbally mess in lower ranks. High ranked games were always decided more quickly. There were also many champion designs rejected as being too "Dota like" in their implementation and capabilities. Now anything goes as long as it sells e-sports seats.

Riot used to be paid by the players and their skins. Now they are paid by e-sports views primarily. The hell with league being an actual game, its a sport guys!

ah yea

I remember when Darius was subpar in early 2013 and then got his ult nerfed out of nowhere because of "frustration" which then gave him the right to be irrelevant for the next 2 years until jug rework.

thanks morello

Only if people don't beg for him to be replaced like they did last time.
