Ping Spam = Verbal Abuse/Offensive Language?

A couple weeks back, I admit I got pissed at my team (for not being able to understand my signals - I did not speak that match) and I ping spammed in the closing 5 minutes of the match. I had not said anything because my entire team was muted (I muted all 9 players before the game started). After the game a dude said, "Report him for spamming ping" and 5 seconds later I get a warning for Verbal abuse.

Then today, someone else was being a jerk and ping spamming bot lane (using the G key which doesn't tell who pinged) and bot lane blamed it on me. After the match I am reported for Offensive Language when I hadn't said a word that match and never used any offensive language.

If someone files a false report, why am I still getting a warning?

Well first off, don't abuse the ping function to vent your frustrations. If you're going to mute everyone and not talk, you can't expect them to understand everything you're trying to communicate.

Second, Verbal Abuse/Offensive Language/Negative Attitude pop-ups are just alerts stating that you have been reported more often than usual. It is only based on the amount of reports which means there could be false reports. If you got a message and you weren't toxic, then just close the window and move on with life. If you got the message and you were toxic in a recent game, then this is your wake up call to go back to being good.

What I believe may have happened is that you had a "spike" in your reports for that game. So you said bot lane reported you for spamming (but used the Offensive Language option) when you weren't chatting nor abusing pings.

My guess is your reports looked something like this.

Game 1 0 reports, Game 2 0 reports, Game 3 0 reports, Game 4 0 reports, Game 5 0 reports, Game 6 2 reports from your bot lane.

That's the spike and it triggers the behavioral alert. You have nothing to worry about if you weren't actually being toxic. I too have been reported for Offensive Language because 4 enemies were pissed at me for carrying a game in ranked as Yi (ya know, the champ everyone hates?), as well as being reported for Negative Attitude because I stole blue from a teammate.

Here's an article from Riot for more information on Negative Behavior Warnings: https://support.riotgames.com/hc/en-us/articles/201752924-Behavior-Alerts-FAQ

Well, ping spamming can't be verified (I think) and there isn't really a category for it - when it happens I personally report them under "spamming". However, when the Tribunal existed Riot's line of thought was that if there was something reprehensible about the reported player, you should be hitting punish even if the offense wasn't put in the right category.

For instance, let's say we play together and you spend the whole game complaining that this is gg, this is over, we're losing time, etc.; I report you under "verbal abuse" instead of "negative attitude" - while I chose the wrong category (for whatever reason) your attitude is still punishable by Riot's standards.

If you are getting a warning from a "false report", either;

  1. The warning was not for that game specifically (I was never warned myself so I'm not sure if it's instant)
  2. You actually were toxic but you won't tell us
  3. You actually legitimately get reported for offensive language often and you jsut happened to be warned on that one game you said nothing
