I am wondering what you guys mean by this: "While we've been digging the future Zilean's update set out for him, "?
Does this mean you are planning a more comprehensive update for him? How far away is it? What have you guys already tried that has not worked? In what direction are you taking him?
Please keep the bomb and some EXP gain mechanic (make it significant) :P
EXP gain is the single most binary, boring mechanic in the game, and it's the ONLY mechanic in the game to become literally entirely useless 20 minutes in.
What Zilean needs is a kit actually focused on something, as opposed to just being "Er, things that explode later are time related, I guess."
I believe what they meant is that they see a brighter future for him in the game since his update, because they think his new kit is healthier. They DID say they plan to give him a more full rework in the future but I feel like that's a long way away.
I personally hope when they rework him they give him a proper overhaul, including removing his bombs and movement speed spell because I just don't feel like that's the best way a time mage can be represented. But now that this mini-rework has happened and he actually has some cool gameplay I don't want it to happen as much anymore, just because I'd feel bad about all the wasted effort they put in and also because of people like you, who like him a lot more than I ever would :P
