As an Urgot player, I am a bit worried about what is going to happen to the guy.
I am almost certain that, whoever will end up doing the Urgot rework, is not going to be an Urgot player.
There aren't many of us outside of Riot, so I doubt there would be an army of crab people in the Riot offices.
So, I am just going to lay out my main concern here.
I would be very displeased if Urgot's current duality were not maintained.
That duality being that of half artillery/AD caster, and half bruiser/initiator.
His E-Q combo is what most people think of when they think of Urgot, It's his bread and butter, his artillery side. Something of this sort should definitely be in his final kit, but it would probably be a good idea for overall game health that you change the specifics of how it works.
His Passive, W, and R are what contribute to the tanky side of our favorite crab. His passive, while powerful as hell, could be changed a bit, both to add counterplay and make the skill feel impactful for the Urgot player. His W is a really simple spell, and doesn't really need changes. Gain a medium shield, and slow on attacks while the shield persists. A-OK.
Now, the one thing that cannot be removed, is Urgots Ultimate.
While his E-Q is the bread and butter, what most people think of when they see Urgot (besides "ugh, kill it with fire"), we Urgot players know that the highlight of his gameplay is his ultimate.
We love that feeling of ghostblading up to the enemy team (Yes I buy Ghostblade on Urgot), Swapping their ADC and catching the enemy mid and support in the fear, and proceeding to rip them a new one while you are untouchable.
Taking this from Urgot would be like removing Idol of Durand from Galio, removing Unstoppable Force from Malphite, or removing Requiem from Karthus.
It's one of the of the coolest spells in the game, and removing it would be a horrible decision.
His playstyle of bruiser artillery is weird, it is contradictory, and we love him for it.
tl;dr Keep the crab as a durable ranged champ, and keep his ult.
Edit: Hell, the Twitch treatment might work. He was considered crap until he got a VU, and that VU gave him enough popularity to develop a playerbase for him, and people then considered him to be too powerful, despite how he hadn't had any balance changes since he was considered crap.
