Money over balance?
I've been thinking about this recently. I know Riot's highest priority is to make enough money to please its shareholders. With these balance complaint posts popping up for the good part of 1.5 years with no internal change, it's clear that the players who voice concern over these controversial changes are expendable.
Riot games are not stupid, they have data on their side. I theorize that those who hate new changes the most are veterans who have already retained previous season's game knowledge. The reason we don't see "balance" change, rather much more "new" changes, is because the newer playerbase is more valuable than the older playerbase.
Older playerbase would spend less money because they already have a collection of skins bought from previous seasons, if they main a champion, it's likely they will use the 1-2 high quality skins they bought from season 1-2-3-4-5-6-7.
Whereas newer playerbase who are still looking for their champion/role identity will purchase more skins.
Another trend I've notice is: new champ -> broken for a period of time (make lots of $$$ because it's broken and those who mains it feels like a god) -> nerfed to oblivion or stays in meta, and this repeats.
It's like when a new game release, lots of copies sold, after a period of time where you can't milk any more money out because everyone who wants it have gotten a copy, it's sold at a lower price on steam, or the price decreases.
Same business strategy with movies -> blue ray.
LoL have been employing the same method for the past few years, except this formula lowers its quality dramatically.
So in a way, people like us, who played since S2, are expendable. It doesn't matter how I shout or pout.
Agree, disagree, thoughts?
