Did I miss something? Why are Wards back to being that "thing" you can do without.

Three games in a row now I have had the highest number of wards placed. I'm playing JG and Top. Supports are all the sudden back to being offended by sight stones and the idea that warding is for those "special people". Why has the average skill level of league dropped so suddenly? Is it because I'm not playing ranked? What happened?
