Having a main is more than just playing a strong champion a lot. If you think he's fun then just play him, regardless of his strength. You'll figure out how to use him properly, and if he ever ends up being viewed as weak you'll still be able to put him to use.

He is overpowered in my opinion, so yeah. He has a lot of burst and consistent damage, cc, and is very mobile. Also, he enables teams without tanks to successfully fight, which is important in low elo where people make greedy picks.
