"we wanted choosing Exhaust to be part of your strategy, not just a default option."

So I just read this Ask Riot. The full quote is this:

> Exhaust felt like it doubled down too hard as a damage reduction and damage amplification tool. It already flat out reduced damage dealt by its target and its slow is potent enough as a catch tool for focusing down enemies in many situations. In a sense, we were trimming some of the fat off of Exhaust that we felt made it too universally potent as a summoner spell choice — we wanted choosing Exhaust to be part of your strategy, not just a default option.

You want Exhaust to be part of my strategy, not just a default option.

So how about Flash then? Flash has been THE dominant summoner spell for years. I've heard people try to throw reasons of why this should be so, such as:

-The game is built around it! (you don't have to remove it, just nerf it in some way so it ISN'T picked 99% of the time) -It's balanced because everyone can take it! (Do I really need to explain this logical fallacy?) -It's perfectly fine! (Then why is it picked 99% of the time?)

Look, I'm not saying i want to see Flash nerfed to the ground. It is an awesome spell that can make you feel awesome. But when I see other spells such as Exhaust nerfed, and their follow up reasoning is it's the "summoner spell of choice"...that's a blatant lie. Flash is the summoner spell of choice, it's been that way since Season 1. For those of you who were around back then, Ghost USED to be the go to spell, but then they nerfed it...and people realized how good Flash is, and it's been this way ever since.

Am I the only one who sees the issue with this? I'd like to see all the spells picked fairly equally, not have flash+1 every game on every champion.

I'm of the opinion that Flash should be split into two spells. One a single-person Magical Journey type effect for bypassing walls and the other a fast, long range Dash that can't pass through terrain. Immobile champs would still get Dash and Passwall would be great for ganking from unexpected directions.

Honestly, I think Riot should have done the same with Exhaust instead of just nerfing it. One a slow/ground and the other a damage/resist debuff.

yeah you kind of threw me off there, since that's what this topic is all about.

And if you dont take flash, you suddenly become fodder.

I want two things:

  1. Flash Removed
  2. More Summoner Spells

Early in the game's life, Flash was deemed basically unbalanceable without making either it useless or other summs too strong, and the game has since been balanced around it. Why they didn't just remove it is beyond me, but they didn't.

What if...

You got a small slow after using flash?

If Flash is removed or over-nerfed, then people will just run Ghost over it. Then we'll get these same complaints, only with Ghost being the ubiquitous spell.

Never mind that removing Flash would basically nerf every immobile champion right out of the game.

I think the issue of "we can't simply nerf Flash because people would just pick Ghost 99% of the time" could be easily be solved by, instead, making both part of a rock-paper-scissor (for example by adding Poppy's W or something of similar intent as a summoner spell, able to counter Flash but not Ghost).

They need to un nerf ghost.

"not just a default option".....Here's looking at you, summoner 4

Reaper Soraka4/16/2017, 8:10:32 AM1 votes

If they added an option to remove flash, it would have to be an overpowered survival tool Like...80% damage reduction for 4 seconds.

That would only cover the defensive portion of it's use. They could make a separate spell for an offensive ability; perhaps a pull-in for targets within a set range.

I like the idea of new unique spells to replace flash, but it is really just too strong to replace and would really hurt the game for way too many champions if removed.
