Free Champion Rotation Suggestion
I OWN EVERY CHAMP IN THE GAME, THIS IS NOT FOR MY BENEFIT. I think only of the new players and existing players. I have a friend that just started the game so this has been one of our many discussions.
A few things/problems I've noticed and how Champion Rotation changes may help.
1.) An increasing number of people who only play one champion.
2.) An increasing number of people who do not know how the other champions in the game work because they have never played them.
3.) The sheer number of champions in the game and their accessibility is a lot higher than when i first started 6 years ago.
Proposed Changes
I would like to propose a change to the current Free Champ rotation where players can pick the champions of each category they want each week (or pick perhaps 1 or two of them, maybe not all). This would be so players can try new champions at their own pace and pick the ones they are interested in.
The limitations would be that the user cannot:
- Get skins/mtx for the champs they do not own.
- Cannot take these champions into ranked.
- Cannot pick them X many weeks in a row.
- Possibly only available when you own under X many champions, say, half? This way it scales as more are added.
This facilitates players being able to try champs they are interested in and helps alleviate the problems listed above. I've thought about this for about 5 minutes so I'm sure this could be made better to help monetize things for Riot as well.
How does Riot benefit?
New players are intimidated by how long it will take them to buy new champions and there is always the risk that anything they've bought they wouldn't like. This would help with new player retention.
Every time a player finds a new champion they like they are incentivized to buy it through IP or RP and they are incentivized to buy skins for it. People who have decided they only like one champion might be persuaded to get more of them and more skins given the opportunity to try champs they are interested in on a whim. Rather than having to wait till the next time they show up to give it a shot.
Yet again. Thought about this for like 5 minutes. Maybe it's a good idea, maybe it's bad.
