Why I stopped playing LoL after 7 days

JudasJesus·8/16/2016, 7:30:37 PM·10 votes·2,939 views

So I had a bit of time to kill for a week, and i decided to try LoL out. Mind you I'm over >28years. I did my research on YT and forums and random articles, to be as best prepared as possible. I started going against only bots to get a grove of what to buy and how to play. Then started going PvP @ lvl 10, did pretty good first few matches, got A+, A- and even one S+, this went on for 7 wins.

But After this, it seems that i opened up hell. Now I only face smurf accounts get harassed and pretty owned. So I tough maybe if i loose a few matches i get better matchmaking. Nope, I have now lost 15 times in a row...

So im fed up, this is not fun anymore. Goodbye and you should def fix this issue if you want new players and new money in to this game, which is pretty fun if you exclude all the smurfs that destroy my experience and the game for new comers.

Going to try Dota 2 now. Hope they don't have the same issue.

Dota 2 will have you way more confused than this game will.

MCrisan8/16/2016, 7:40:27 PM8 votes

Dota 2 players will stomp you so hard beacuse is a more complex game, the map is 2x bigger and almost every item has an active, not even considering the creep denying. LoL is far more noob friendly and i don't why you whine about losing, everyone was a noob someday and normal matches don't matter. The first 30 lvls are like tutorials and will give you the oportunity to learn the game before jumping in ranked where the big games are held! GL HF!

The problem is most likely that you did very good in your first games and maybe got detected as a smurf.

smurfs get queued up with other smurfs in this system.

this will be fixed if you play more games.

Don't ever play Dota btw, that game is shit

honestly the 1-lvl 30 experience is hell, it didn't used to be that way.. but with all the smurfs.. it is now. i would play vs bots, you wont get as much exp or IP and u wont learn as much.. but it wont be hell... or you can continue with PVP and it will eventually figure out your facing people you shouldn't be.. but don't expect to get in a remotely close game until lvl 30.

if i didn't already have all the champ i wanted.. and all the runes i needed.. i wouldn't play either.

i would never recommend this game to a friend just because the lvl 1-30 experience is so freaking bad.. bt if u can pull though it.. it will get better..

LOL is a pretty tough game and facing surfs is part of that game...look at the upside, you play against or with more experienced players so you will be able to learn better than if you were playing with noobs...Also, LOL is a game that you have to learn extensively to become good at it... if you are not patient enough to appreciate the how the game works then you should try something easier...Like tic tac toe...

Quit League. The game is in the worst and most unfun balance state it's ever been and the community is one of the most toxic in all of gaming. Try other MOBAs. Paragon just went live today.

Hyperiön8/16/2016, 7:45:18 PM2 votes

Continue playing, along with that another said below, if you were playing really well, then it could have detected you at a smurf, and put you in with smurfs. The more you play, the more you learn. Also, playing against better players makes you a better player in the long run. So stick with it, it will eventually become better for you.

You'll go on huge winning streaks and huge losing streaks in League. If it gets to you, play some ARAM, or even try out a new champion in a bot game. It's demoralizing to lose so many games, but if you can shrug it off, you can end your losing streak early.

Statistically, you'll lose about 50% of your PvP games. Not everyone can win all the time!

League is actually an insanely easy game once you get it; The learning curve just becomes knowing every champions moves/positioning - but the basic concept is beyond straight forward.

DoTa 2 - On the other hand; Actually has different strategy's and team comps that morph between games. The difficulty scale goes up 10 folds.

I had the same issue when I tried to get my friend into the game; In his first few games he was playing against people at a Gold Level - who all would constantly harass him for being new to the game. That's the main downfall of this game at the moment. From the get go; new players are thrown into a smurf/toxic community and if they stick around they most likely will become toxic themselves.

4/5 people I've tried getting into this game so far have not been able to make it past level 15 due to harassment. League has been voted the most toxic gaming community a few years in a row now.

If you feel comfortable being harassed for 200+ (30 Minute games) then yes; It eventually becomes worth it. If not; you might want to move on to a less toxic community. I didn't stop seeing toxic players till I hit Gold - and for most people that's an average of a year game time.

If you asked me if I'd do the leveling process again (With fresh knowledge of the game) I wouldn't be here. A game shouldn't take 200 games before the community balances itself out/starts being enjoyable. Yah I'm enjoying it now; but you have to live through that struggle first.

tbh my brother almost quit when he made an account for the first time because he ONLY fought smurfs...

Hey JudasJesus,

If I were you, I would keep playing, but I would stack the deck in your favor. Find people on your (our) server, that have a positive attitude and team up with them for more enjoyable games.

Not really sure what to tell ya man. I have loved League since I started playing it over 6 years ago. But I really got into it back when I was in college and friends/roommates were playing it. I don't think I would have stuck around as long as I have if I didn't know so many people playing it back in the early years. Most my friends quit playing it but I still love the game. I have never tried to get other people to play it though since either my friends have played it or if they haven't they don't want to. I know how toxic the game can be especially at low levels and I can't even try to pretend like playing pre 30 is going to be fun.

Its obviously your call but until you play a lot you are probably going to lose a good amount. But if you decide to stick around I suggest actively trying to learn the game as you will learn a lot quicker than I did since the learning curve seems higher these days.

I like to call pre 30 games "smurf wars". Sorry you got caught in the war :(

smurfs are 2spooky4me

You could try ARAM

Also if you are interested in other MOBAs then the alternatives that I know of are: DotA 2 (most similar to LoL but it has a better tutorial I think? though it is also a lot more punishing with things like hard counters and losing gold on death if you mess up) Heroes of the Storm (probably the easist game to pick up and play as it doesn't have gold or items) Smite (Quite an interesting one being a first person MOBA)

Kurt Kobain once said: "Rape me, rape me my friend. Rape me, rape me again". On another note, LoL feels more like a "Massive Online Di@# Measuring And Battle Arena". It has the potential to be super fun but it's more frustrating than rewarding. Just my -85/∞/-5.3 cents.

I remember my first few pvp games. I didn't know shit and got my cheeks dished. People harassed me and called me retarded, Didn't know what a support role was and took CS from ADC. People flaming me left and right. What did I do? I kept playing because I'm competitive and wanted to beat this high learning curve. I like a challenge and don't mind losing to learn from my mistakes.

What I didn't do... is cry like a newborn baby bitch and quit because of what people type in game (The Feels) or people ROFL stomping me in game.

To each their own I guess lol.

Ackelope8/17/2016, 1:23:47 AM1 votes

I could imagine this game would be worth playing and enjoyable if you find yourself some people who won't flame you to play with, at least until level 30. Might not seem like the best advice, but I think it'd definitely help your situation, if you want to keep playing LoL

Rain NT8/17/2016, 1:27:49 AM1 votes

Yeah playing the game from the start now is hella hard. Rito should make it where they judge players from how they play and match them up with other players who plays at their level so smurfs would only face up against smurf. This will also prepare new players who are just simply really good for ranked matches later on. How I started out playing, I played with the same dudes everyday almost, and played solo but didnt really care what people say, I only play to get kills and have fun.

CaptnJakSparrow8/17/2016, 1:36:30 AM1 votes

"Why can't I stomp in every single game I play. Fix your shit Riot." A bronze 5 incoming story.

Survival of the fittest

If you are crybaby you dont deserve reaching level 30

Quit before you're addicted. It's just awful playing this game with people who dont know what their doing, what the champions do, when they are strong or weak, when to take objectives, the list goes on and on. If all players knew this, the game would be fun as hell because it would mean it's on YOU to make a mistake or to figure out a strategy to outsmart the opponent. So little of this game is actually based on your "micro".

The only place this happens is Challenger and the system is setup to not let you get there unless it pegs your account as a smurf and you go 10-0 in placements and proceed to go 40-0 in the following matches.

Vistha Kai8/16/2016, 8:44:49 PM1 votes

I'd say, DotA has the same problem, except worse, since you need to know much more to be even "average" there.

Doesn't mean the game is any better or worse otherwise.

redfeenix8/16/2016, 8:45:40 PM1 votes

Try heroes of the storm friend.

Its made by blizzard and is a much more fun, casual MOBA than League. Add me on bnet if you want.

DO NOT PLAY DOTA LMFAO. The graphics suck, the mechanics suck, and the playerbase is wayyy worse.

Naenia8/16/2016, 7:45:21 PM1 votes

The thing that makes me sad when I hear about new players in LoL wanting to quit is the fact that they aren't willing to work through their losses and learn from them. You can't always expect to win. And yes, you will be matched against people who are better than you but the only way you will truly get better yourself is by practicing and facing people who test your strength. If you constantly play against people who you are better than, your skills will never improve.

For example, you're playing a one player game on easy mode and you win most, if not all, of your games. How do you ever expect to beat the hard mode if you're always setting it to easy? Also, try playing co-op vs AI a bit longer if you don't feel you're ready to play PVP yet. I'm not afraid to admit I didn't start playing PVP until almost level 20. Playing against bots made me feel comfortable with the game and I felt like I was truly ready for my next challenge. I wanted to test my skills against people who were better than me. Now, two years later, I feel like I have improved soooo much!

Anything new you try has to be given time and patience. You can't expect to master a game like LoL in just a week. I hope you, and others in your situation, give it another shot because this is a great game. You can even add me if you want and we can practice together :)
