Heimerdinger build help

Ok I am going a normalish rune build with Heimer, you know ap runes magic pen etc but I swapped out scaling health with health regen to capitalize on his regen. For masteries I go 18 0 12 because again, I get regen (Also death fire touch applies to turret laser shots which makes laning phase rather dangerous for the enemy, not sure if thunder is better tho.) And other than Zonyas I am not sure whats a good build for items, any ideas? Should I be going thunderlords for the rocket burst? Is regen dinger old hat and I am just late to the party? I tried a test match and while I pushed down lane and denied the enemy creep score I died 7 times and only got 2 kills.
