(Sorry if this is an obvious question, still learning the flow of seasons in League...)
Now that the 2016 Season is over, during this "off season" is there a reason to play Ranked Matches right now? (Does it influence your ranking when 2017 Season starts?)
Also when does the next season start? January 1, 2017?

I think december 7th is when things are expected to start. Might be another couple weeks after that if they have more preseason tweaks they want to work out.
During preseason your gains have a much smaller influence, but it'll still impact your MMR so that if you climb a bunch in preseason you're likely to start your placement matches with a slightly higher MMR, which in turn will mean your MMR at the end of placement matches will be slightly higher, meaning you'll get placed slightly higher than you would otherwise.
Your MMR at the end of season 6 (as in when rewards were given out) is still the main factor, but preseason stuff has a small influence.
it takes into account your rank when the season reset not when the season ends for rewards. so even if you climb in the pre season it will take that into account. and i believe Season 7 starts in December this year? normally it started around February i believe. but im not 100%
