New Draft Pick Change

So, I have joined multiple games of draft pick since the new update to the system and I seem to have a problem (though 100% my fault), I tend to choose the champion i want to play at the very last second and due to this i do not hit the lock in button in time. Resulting in me gettting kicked out receiving an abandon game timer. My question is why not remove the "lock in"? I'm pretty sure that if the summoner has chosen a champion, they are there (unless the "lock in" button is in place for a different purpose than making sure people aren't afk). Just a question i had for riot.
