Life steal should have limits

Honestly I don't see the necessity of stacking life steal for multiple times. Sure, you cannot avoid to build any when you're laning against certain (sustain) matchups. But every AD caster who has a targeted gap closer/mobility/CC immunity/untargetability/unkillability is capable of going over the top - and they do over and over again - without hesitation.

But why? Why would you build a Hydra and a Bloodthirster and/or BOTRK on a Lee Sin/Olaf/Fiora/Trynda/Jax/Riven/Rengar/Kha.... .... Isn't there enough AD/crit chance/armpen/AS item you can find in the shop? You want to "carry every game" that hard?! [...]

To create more options for actual plays here are my recommendations (with OR logical operator between each sentence):

  1. Life steal should be a global unique passive - you can build any item you prefer but - if you decide to stack ls - you won't get the passive part out of it.

  1. Life steal should have a (let's say) 20% cap - that's more than enough to fulfill everyone's needs.

  1. If you achieve something (the same way like Rengar gets his trophies [through kills and assists]) you may unlock a stack to build life steal at certain "trophy" levels

At the very least, can we remove derpy things like healling to full off of a ward?

actually BTs cant stack.

Lifesteal is limited by having to sacrifice item slots for each item. making you vulnerable to bursts the more slots you sacrifice.
also the cap on lifesteal was addressed a year ago or so when BT was changed, botrk and hydra also got its cap lowered. also morellonomicon item 3165 ignite summoner 14 and reduce healing champs (Katarina Varus MissFortune though scarce, could use a few more) are available.

I think its not so much a question of fixing lifesteal. I think the cap on lifesteal is fine considering the slot sacrifice system in place. Rather its a question of adjusting the rest of the game around it being the way it is currently.

Assuming it isn't already fine as it is.

Dude if you nerf lifesteal then ADCs will get super shit on by the tank meta currently. With the tanky build paths and the thornmail + gromp buff + all the defence stats, tanks will just rape through the adcs. Even with 20-30% lifesteal the ADC life is so h4rd. And bro, BT's dont stack so basically the highest anyone will usually get is like 30%.

In my opinion, there is really no argument against a build that wins. Period.

Lifesteal is capped at 40%?

You build multiple of those lifesteal items on those champions because they are fucking melee.

And since most of them build glass, they build those items to drain tank for at least a couple of seconds before getting absolutely destroyed.

Lifesteal doesnt need a cap.

I have had games with no adc that we totally dominated. putting a 2nd assassin bot and there is not much an adc can do. I like how tanks are coming back into a little more power now to counter the assassins. BUT... lifesteal on an assassin who can 100-0 your adc much faster than they can take anyone down means a reset champ like kat can just stay full health while she kills all the squishies and finish the tank off at leisure. I have a much bigger problem with assassins with high vamp over adc's with it. Melees sacrifice big damage to build lifesteal so that if they aren't dead before they reach someone then maybe they won't die in the fight isn't OP. Yesterday was playing xin and ganked a pushed up karma. I already had been having a good game and had my jg item and a little more damage on top of it. used all my abilities and took her down in 4 shots. leaving me vulnerable with no escape and on cd everything and no way to chase down the mobile adc. She complained about how powerful I was. lol! A couple minutes later she was back on our mid's turret with enemy mid and I almost died before I could even get in range for my gap closer and had to run away and back. With a melee with lifesteal, all you need to beat is a slow or stun and kill them without them getting a chance to even hit you.

But I need item 3072item 3072 item 3072 item 3072 item 3072 item 3006 for when the enemy team builds thornmails.

No, Lifesteal is sometimes a very integral part of the game, capping Lifesteal would nerf SO MANY different champions to the point where they aren't worth playing. Plus if you think of it, it kind of has its own quasi cap. If you build too much Lifesteal you dont have room for other items that could be better. ADC builds 3 Lifesteal items, they dont have room to stack Crit, Vi builds too much lifesteal, she doesn't have room for the tankiness that keeps her alive in fights. Lifesteal does not need a cap because if you build too much or get too dumb with your build you're going to hurt.

same for ad, riot definitvly must insert a cap of 100bonus damage. i'm kinda bored of bruiser with 300+ad nowadays.

Lifesteal is already limited in effectiveness. There is only one Lifesteal item that synergizes with the others--Blade of the Ruined King--and then all the rest are just AD and LS with bells and whistles on the side. Armor scales two to three times as much as Magic Resistance, and has higher bonuses on items. Thornmail exists and hard-counters Lifesteal, because the damage reflection is pre-mitigation while Lifesteal is post-mitigation (before and after armor, respectively).
