New Player Dilemma

Hello and Happy Holidays Everyone,

I am running into an issue that I wasn't expecting and I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on what I could do to get around this. I am new to League of Legends, but I have been gaming my entire life and I am not new to MOBAs in general. I just came over from Smite so although I am a newbie here, I have all the basics down such as roles, the lanes, what the meta is and the basics on how to play the game. The only thing I have to work on is my mechanics and macro.

The problem is... I am a support main. Before I can start ranked to play with at least halfway competent players, I have to first get to level 30. Unfortunately, this is becoming a nightmare.

Half the time 3/5 people don't know what the roles are or what lane to go to. Usually my ADC doesn't even know what an ADC is or what their job is. Usually I get stuck supporting a mage in bot lane that has NO IDEA what they are doing mechanics wise and they just end up feeding their brains out. It is getting to the point where its becoming a coin flip that usually is not in my favor on which team gets more feeding monkeys. It is seriously to the point where I cannot enjoy the game.

I am trying to figure out what I am supposed to do about this as I do not have many friends who play League of Legends therefore I am usually stuck with Solo Queue. I love playing support and I would like to continue to do so, but when I am usually the only competent player on the team, it is very hard to carry the game as a support.

If the only answer is to not play support and learn a new role that has the ability to solo carry games full of braindead automatons, then I guess thats what I have to do. If anyone here has any ideas other than switching roles as a last resort, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks guys and I hope you all have a happy holiday season!

In low elo normals, esp. if you are really new, you just have to take them as they come. You arent going to get normal lane assignments there. People can't even jungle for like 5-10 levels either.

Just keep trucking and get 30 and into ranked games and normal games where people play decently. You might even hit that point way before. IT sounds like you are at least in the right Q. Most new accounts are smurfs and those games are a real chore and you would probably get dominated and hate the game even more. At least it sounds like you are playing with other noobs. Just enjoy it, pick support champs that can carry like morg/brand/zyra, and have fun until you reach some tryhards.

stop playing support

don't u like to feel strong? don't you feel satisfaction from shitting on multiple people and topping the damage tables?

if you don't then you are a sadomasochist my friend because that is what support is.

I would suggest playing ADC until you get to level 30. That way you are still in the bot lane, have a lot more control on the outcome of the match and get to see more instances of good supporting, or what you would have done better. Patience really

I'm normally one to advocate for switching roles, but I do feel you could still play Support and manage to carry games at the same time - it's tough as hell, but thank god it's not impossible. My suggestion is to try and learn as many Support champions as you can, and see which ones you can reliably play super well. There are a good handful of champions out there that, while even in the Support role, can be monstrous forces should they not get outright stomped on.

My suggestions are, if you're looking for tanky champions, try Leona and/or Tahm Kench - Leona is an amazing AP tank with good co-op damage thanks to Sunlight, great engage and disruption with Zenith Blade, Shield of Daybreak, and Solar Flare, and she's amazingly hard to kill thanks to Eclipse. Tahm Kench is even harder to kill by default, as he has stupidly high health and Thick Skin to boot, making him ignorant of half the damage he takes. His poke is obscene, especially if you level Devour first (which, also makes his single-target Champion damage pretty stupid, too.) and he has good damage and CC threat from Tongue Lash and Acquired Taste, and high mobility and map pressure thanks to Abyssal Voyage.

But! If you happen to err more on the side of Control Mages/Utility Supports and Healers, my suggestions are Brand, Lux, Karma, Bard, and Sona - Brand, Sona and Lux all have high damage early on (although each has their own little quirks to gate it - Brand needs to combo his spells, Sona has fairly high cooldowns and her Power Chord mechanic, and Lux has to auto-attack a champion she recently hit with a spell). Brand has amazing teamfight potential thanks to his Pyroclasm, Lux has high instant burst that's really good when you line up her Final Spark, and Sona has a lot of high-damage poke thanks to her Hymn of Valor, and she has heals and speed boosts to boot, plus a medium-range AoE stun.

Karma is a self-sustaining Support that does a lot of damage through ranged poke, and since she has a shield for utility, you'll often see her in bottom lane siege-comps alongside Caitlyn. Her Q is a medium-range poke, her W is a shield, and her E is instant damage that, if you're close enough for long enough, roots and does more damage. Then on top of that, her ult causes her Q to leave an AOE slow that pops for extra damage, her W is larger and affects more units, and her E heals. On both damage procs.

As for Bard - he is the carry when the carry can't carry. You'll get flak for listening to my advice, but it's worth it - buy hard AP and movement speed, stuff like Lich Bane, Luden's Echo, and so on. His Wanderer's Call has absolutely ridiculous AP ratios for the AA buff when you've collected enough chimes, his Q does serious damage and stuns if it connects one person to another, or a wall, his W is kind of "meh" since most people don't know that it has to spend time to heal more, but at higher ranks it's pretty good for quick casts to top people off. His E gives him almost as much mobility as post-rework Talon, and his ult is an AoE Zhonya's Hourglass. The biggest problem you'd find with Bard is that he constantly has to leave lane to gain extra EXP, Mana, and AP on his passive.

Other than that, I'm not sure what to recommend, but I hope you found this helpful.
