Am I the only one who thinks bot lane Summoner Spells are a backwards?
Specifically referring to the current meta of taking
as the adc and
as the support.
Wouldn't it make more sense to have
as the adc? Exhaust is used to shut down burst assassins and secure kills, both of which are abilities that make a lot of sense for the adc to have directly. What if the adc splits with the top laner? If Exhaust is readily available when and where the adc needs it, the adc can.
In the same vein, the support's job is to peel for their allies and either tank damage or heal and provide utility.
provides instant bonuses that do just that. If you and your adc are in too deep in lane, the heal affects both of you, so it doesn't matter who takes it in the early stages of the game. Then later in the game, your support is the heal-n-peel engine that drives your team during fights and grants a second breath where and when it's needed.
The adc tends to use their Summoners selfishly, which leads to less effective results when the effects are split between two teammates like Heal. When the adc peels for themself, whoever is standing closes is the one who gets the second heal effect, and is usually not someone who particularly needs it. On the flipside, Exhaust is just fine for being used selfishly. Assassin on your ass? Exhaust, and you and your team can follow up with necessary measures. Want to turn a dive around and get the kite train rolling? Exhaust. Against assassins, you get 2 seconds of crippled damage output with Exhaust versus a marginal health increase with Heal, and Exhaust makes a lot more sense for securing a kill should that ever be needed.
Keeping it simple for the support: You no longer have to worry about babying the adc with Exhaust protection when there are bursty enemy assassins; the adc can take care of that themself now. You now have a versatile summoner spell that grants you and one of your teammates an instant heal and movement speed bonus. You can use it on the adc or anyone else who needs to peel, or maybe to use it to close that extra inch of gap to make an important catch. Go nuts!
If anyone has any insights as to why this wouldn't work out as beautifully as it does on paper, tell me below, because as far as I'm able to reason, this all seems pretty solid.
