Anyone else strongly prefer the design of older champs to the new/reworked ones?

When I look at the champs I play the most and have the most fun playing, such as Nasus, Yi, and Pantheon just to name a few, I realized that they are all older champs. People constantly talk about these champs being outdated and needing a rework, but the funny thing is I get a lot more enjoyment out of these so called "outdated" champs then I do from anything released Since I started playing in season 5 save for maybe Jhin.

They newer champs to me just seem.... meh. Most of them to me just feel rito took a bunch of random CC and mobility spells and put them in a blender. The few that lack mobility/CC such as Illaoi don't really gel with me either as they feel so easy to play around and never really feel like they can ever reach their potential.

Assassins especially are a lot less enjoyable for me after their recent reworks. Katarina used to be a champ that got my adrenaline pumping, now she just feels "meh". I'm aware she's still just as good or perhaps even better in then she was before in skilled hands, but as far as my enjoyment playing her goings, the rework really tanked my interest in her. I simply don't find managing dagger combos as fun as fun as waiting for an enemy to get low then pentakilling the enemy team in under a second. I realize some might have found that but frustrating to play against, but I digress. Sad thing is Katarina probably got treated the best out of all reworked assassins and I still find her way less enjoyable (again this topic is about fun, not strength), I really feel sorry for the people who mained Rengar, Shaco and Leblanc.

But then again I'm a Silver scrub who plays mainly for fun which means my opinion means nothing and will continue to see my "braindead" champs reworked in ways that make that make them no longer enjoyable. Guess I better become a masochist and main support for freelo.

The problem is with these outdated champions is that no one likes playing against them. No one likes playing against pantheon, or the some of old assassins, because the only way to deal with them is not go anywhere near them for risk of not being able to fight back because you're dead in .5 seconds. Or, on the other hand, being behind on these champions is basically handicapping your team.

I'm sorry, but I just can't take your criticism seriously. As far as I can tell from your post, you only seem to enjoy champs because they're easy and produce results with little effort. That's literally it. Nothing about their personality or design resonating with you. Along with that, if a champion gets even remotely challenging you lose all interest, which is a damn shame. I can see you losing interest because the kit feels completely different from previous versions or has too much counterplay (that's my thing with Illaoi ), but the second they raise the skill floor you opt out? Really?

I love Kayn . The second I saw the teaser I thought "I need to play this guy." Didn't care how difficult he would be or what he even did in game, I latched onto him immediately. I even took the time to learn a role I sucked at AND hated for this guy. Call me an edgy weeaboo all you want, but that's how I feel.

If there are honestly no champions who do that for you, and all you care about is whether you can win with them, I don't think this game is for you. This game, while not having an infinite amount of depth, does reward the effort players are willing to put in to learn it, including the champions. If you aren't willing to do that, then a big part of what this game is about is worthless in your eyes.

The only "new" design that causes me problems is Gangplank. I used to have so much fun on him building all crit/lifesteal. Now with his barrels I can't ever seem to figure out when to put them down and when to shoot at them. I also miss old Sion. He was OP near the beginning, then nerfed and nerfed again till it was time to "rework" him. Now everyone seems to enjoy his rework more.

The one that frustrates me most is Galio. He was lots of fun for me to play till he got reworked.

It's fine though. As long as Leona and Vel'Koz don't get touched I can deal with all the other changes.

not necessarily, pantheon is a nightmare, as is nunu, mostly because all these old champions have point & click abilities which are really strong.

I enjoy the older champions as well, I like the simplicity they offer.

Sion's rework was alright, as he's still pretty simple kit-wise, while having a moderately high skillcap.

GP's rework is the main one I've never been fond of. Although he's definitely a stronger pick now, I enjoyed the flexibility of his pre-rework kit. He was the 1st champion that got me into jungling and it's a bit disappointing that he can only lane now.

on Katarina yes..

i dont play her but i find her new kit to havehas significantly less counterplay than her old one, based simply on how many times she can shunpo away from skillshots. you literally CANNOT hit a kat anymore, if she plays correctly

the only one she had 1 shunpo then she needed a kill or assist

the new one she does it every 2 seconds. you cant land anything. and while this may not be a issue for certain champions. it makes her impossible to deal with for skill-shot reliant champion unless SHE messes up

and dont bring up the bullshit like "aim for the dagger" her shunpo is instant .. she would have nearly a full second to see my skillshot going toward the dagger then choose to shunpo to it.. THEN choose to shunpo into a section of the dagger that would STILL get hit by the skillshot, because she can choose to go to ANY side of it.. so again.. SHE would have to seriously mess that up to get hit

some yes, some no. I prefer old taric but new sion, for instance. I want kayle redone but nunu is fine to me.

oh man old galio in aram/RGM was probably the most fun I've had on league, but at others' expense because it was extremely broken and anti-fun for enemies

I like way more the reworked versions because they don't lack counterplay like the pre-reworks with some exceptions (leblanc, talon, rengar), so most of the reworks are better imo and more enjoyable.

To be honest, I dislike hard yi and pantheon because they are too abusive and need an urgent rework.

A lot of the older champions are simpler and more straightforward because they were drawn from a blank slate. Modern champions all need some sort of complexity to ensure they aren't occupying the same space as an older champion.

We have some newer updates that are still simple. New Warwick, for example, is almost exactly like old Warwick, except his ult is a skillshot, his E (Which used to be a howl and is still a howl) is now a fear, and his Q can be used as a weird dash. His W is his old W except global and, instead of vision, grants movement speed.

Jhin is a pretty simple newer champion.

Illaoi Rito pls make her gameplay match the quality of her design.

I mean, older champs either have a design that is problematic for the game since they need to be worse to be balanced (think old Warwick Sion and Evelynn), or they can't perform well because they lack the tools that new champs are receiving, which follow their newer design principles, or they are immensely strong because of how their kit allows certain builds to be strong, and then causes their performance to spike in the tier lists.

The newer champs can't ALL be uninteresting to you, there are some pretty awesome ones out now that you could take for a whirl, even the reworks aren't all bad, just give them a try for a few games during free week and see what you think. Maybe you'll find a new pick for the positions you like playing in ^_^
