This is a call out for the annoying amount of "best case" Bias.

FFS please account for realistic usage rather then on paper best cases if you want to have a conversation about gameplay. The likelihood of something hitting its best case should ALWAYS be included into conversations about champion strengths. So Y'all if you would be so kind, can we please stop letting folks get away with best case usage when its not realistic reliable?

Let me walk ya over it really fast. Xerath Best case vs rational usage. QWR. All aoe, All "can" hit 5 targets. That means his best case level 16 R can have a Base damage of 1400 and 215% AP scaling multiplied by 5. Is this realistic? fuck no. Can he On paper do 7,000 base damage with just his r? Absolutly.

If you tally it up your looking at a Full ability rotation resulting in best case 9,800 base damage with 1945% AP scaling Aka 19.45 damage per 1 point of AP.

However the moment you ask what realistic usage is? Then its not rational to assume this has happened EVER in the history of the game for a serious match.

Just Some food for thought.

Along the same lines is practicality of a build.

Yeah, theoretically AD Thresh can serve up one-shots with two autos, but realistically he's never getting to that point because the build is fucking trash for the rest of the game.

Generally, if it only shows up in ARAM, URF, or compilation videos, it's trash.

I remember when Camille went to the PBE.

Some people were throwing fits that her healing on W is going to be absolutely broken, because they have seen videos of Camille healing her entire health bar on PBE. Since there were videos for it, on paper, yes, that was possible.

However, the people making the video tested her healing against a Cho'Gath with tons of ult stacks and building 6 Frozen Mallets. Her W deals %max health damage and heals her for the damage she deals with it. Against a target with around 10k HP without any resistances whatsoever, yes, she will heal a ton.

Was really annoying to explain to people that this will never happen in any serious match whatsoever.

There's also worst case bias to account for, not to mention the bias that's inherent in rank, playstyle, champ pool, and role. I'm sure I missed some, but hey this is a good start.

It´s true that expecting the Xerath in this case to hit 5 people with every shot is beyond unrealistic.

But is it so to assume he´ll hit at least 2 people every Q in a teamfight or when poking in a "pre teamfight lineup"? I think he already does good damage in this scenario, if every W also hits 2 then it´s great and buffing it would make him broken since his Q is so reliable.

People on these boards often have this "best case bias" it´s true, but equally often they have the opposite one and use it as a pretext to ask for buffs.

"People are not stupid they will never ever stack so xerath wont hit more than 1 so his damage is weak!"

-Ignoring what actually happens then if he does hit more than 1.

"Junglers suck because camps do not give enough gold&exp! Need buffs!"

-Ignoring what actually happens if the junglers happen to be good at ganking early or can gank even when down on 1-2 levels

Moral of this? Boards are extremely self serving x)
