So wait... muting someone does NOT put a lid on annoying ping spamming?

RIOT, what the hell do you think people mute people for? There are only two conceivable reasons to mute someone;

  1. They're spewing vitriol all over team and all chat.

  2. They're incessantly pinging in ways that are distracting, possibly badmouthing and on the whole aren't constructive or useful.

Why does muting them stop one of these things but not the other? Please tell me there is just a setting I'm missing because if there isn't, the only word I have to describe this decision starts with a capital R.

EDIT: If someone has been annoying enough, often enough that someone wants to mute their ability to ping, it's probable that this person has nothing useful to contribute and if they do, it would be so minimal that their one or two useful contributions would be heavily outweighed by the unyielding annoyance generated by their ping spamming.

There's an option somewhere in the in-game settings to disable ping sounds, though you'll still get the messages and the graphical effects for them. I take it the reason is because if you wanted to mute someone, you still might find their pings useful.

If someone has demonstrated that they are vindictive and/or abusive enough with their pings that I want to mute said pings, there is a good chance that their pings on the whole are not constructive and I, for one, want to have the option to shut them up. If for no other reason so that I don't spend 29 minutes distracted and annoyed on the off chance that they have a ten second moment of zen and ping something useful.

EDIT: I also shouldn't have to mute everyone else in order to put one dickhead on the STFU truck.

May all your matches be filled with piss and vinegar and pings.
