Malzahar will be in a poor state as long as he has on demand Voidlings

As we've seen with a few champions, specifically mages, if balanced for mid their support play is overbearing and if balanced for support mid play is lacking. Malzahar now firmly falls into this state. I think the upcoming changes (https://twitter.com/ricklessabandon/status/865446561102286849) are a step in the right direction, but as long as he has on demand voidlings he will be impossible to balance in both mid and support. The ability to endlessly harass bot lane with voidlings means they have to be tuned down to being nearly worthless. 1 hit kills for champions means that they will be completely invalid, especially for mid Malz. A possible solution is to make it so any champion affected by visions can one hit kill voidlings as a defense mechanism.

The simplest fix is to return voidlings to his passive and give him a new W. Honestly even a low damage utility ability would be great if his Q and E are tuned right. An AOE slow seems like it would fit his kit, but that's just me throwing out a random idea.

One of the most common complaints I typically hear about Malz is his super safe lane farm/push. Best way to fix this would be to have Malz cause his visions to be stronger to nearby minions. This way if he is too far away they won't have the power to wipe out the lane without any further interaction.

Idk if it's just the on demand aspect, but also the scaling aspect of it. The design of "if you ignore it it's more consistent" cause massive swings in power, and when the champion can increase that damage without sacrificing significant portions of the rest of their power you will always run into the problem of the champion being played in the role which gets the least amount of attention by the enemy team. Which is always either support, and less commonly jungle.

There is a reason that AD malzahar support wasn't effective pre-rework. He sacrificed too much of his kit to improve the power of his voidlings which benefited from his lower presence position. Even though his voidlings were a passive, they were still effectively "on demand". I mean, i played ADC malzahar bot lane... a lot, and trust me, with sufficient practice, it was completely possible to manage and time the activation of your voidlings at will.
