Why did I bother trying to load into the game?

League of Legends Match History

This game I was playing twitch (I'm Wirt Jr).

So we finish the pick/ban phase and my client will not load into the game. The support I had this game lives with me so I know it wasn't our internet connection and my client was still able to do all of the out of game functions (change icon, chat to other players, etc). I restarted the client since that usually resolves the issue when you can't connect and still could not connect. I restarted the client again, still no luck. I then restart my computer and reopen League and I still cannot get into loading screen. Finally, I restart the client a final time and am able to get into game at about 8 minutes (for those keeping count, that's 4 times I restarted/opened the client and 1 time restarting my computer).

Now that I'm in game, I had to catch up so I could help my team win. Long story short, I caught up, ended the game 11/3/12 and won the game thanks to my team all putting in work. It was such a great feeling winning from that position. However, because I was inactive for 8 minutes due to a load in issue, I was considered afk and lost 18 LP for winning a game.

So my question is, why did I bother trying to load back into the game to help my team? Because they didn't remake, the game would have been a 4v5 and, while it isn't impossible to win in that situation, it is much easier to have a 5 man team. If I had decided to stay afk after the first 2 or 3 times I tried to connect and my team had lost, everyone on my team would have lost the LP. But since I came back we were able to win the game (I'm not taking all the credit because my team was doing very well but you get the point). I didn't rage quit or flame anyone or anything a typical person would do when they go afk, I just couldn't connect because of the client. What is the incentive for a player to reconnect to a game when this happens to them if it doesn't matter if they win or lose, they will just lose the LP regardless? Not to get reported for going afk? Riot obviously knows when players go afk and has punishments set up. Plus a player most likely wouldn't get banned from one game, or multiple games, where everyone reports the person for going afk so I don't think that is a good enough reason to rejoin a game.

I'm aware that if there were no punishment in place, some players might abuse the system to either lose their LP or any number of improper and inconsiderate reasons to start a game afk and join later, but there has to be some way to determine if it was a client issue or just a player not playing the game they started. At this point, I see no reason anyone would try to join a game they couldn't connect to within the first 3 minutes of the game unless they just really want to try to get their team some LP but lose their own for playing out the rest of the game they were present for.

Maybe rather than making someone who comes back from this situation (or any afk since not all in game afk's are due to a rage quit, but because of a users computer/internet/client issues) and helping the team win lose the same LP as a player loses after a defeat, just don't give those players as much LP for the win or any LP at all. And I think the same goes for when a team has an afk that causes them to lose. Let the 4 remaining players who stayed in lose like 5 less LP than they would if all of the players were present. You still lose LP since it is possible to win a 4v5, just not as much as a 5v5. I'm sure this would take time to figure out the programming for, but I think it would be worth the investment so there is at least one less thing to worry about when you are trying to climb in ranked (plus there is already programming in the game to detect afk players so maybe this is possible to code by expanding that, idk I'm no programmer).

In conclusion, I want my lost LP back. I didn't come back into game and feed, I played to win and our team won. I'm not sure if this is an issue Riot can actually see that it was just a client issue and not me just closing the game, but I wouldn't have spent my time filing a bug report and making this discussion board if it wasn't the case. So please RIOT, send me some LP. I just want to climb and it's already hard enough with all of the other obstacles this game has (bad games personally, teammates losing lane and leaving game, smurfs just "having fun", etc) and I was on a win streak. Help a summoner out. Glad I got this rant off my chest and I hope something positive can come from this post.
