But guys...we can fix it!

I continue to see people talk about how horrible the new player experience is - and it's absolutely true. I'm not going to rant on it because you all already know, and I've also seen it acknowledged by Riot several times. Smurfing to grind to level 30 a second time is a large part of the problem.

**Solution: **

Allow people to purchase level 30 accounts that are tied to their main account . Put a button in the shop that becomes available once a player reaches level 30, that allows them to spend real money on unlocking a second account. This way the people that want a new account for whatever reason, do not have to grind through the early levels raging at the new players. Riot - you can set the price, and the limit to number of these accounts that people can have. But it's really a win-win for everybody. No more rage grinding to 30, and Riot can profit from this. Seriously.

The only issue I can come up with here would be IP and runes- since jumping into a level 30 game with no runes would be horrible. One of the only things I can think up to fix that would be to allow the runes from your main account to carry over with it. (although this might seem a little OP to me? I'm not sure how I feel about it. Brainstorm with me) Might be a way to up the price a little.

To keep this post short, I didn't go into every tiny little detail because I just wanted to cover the concept in general. So feel free to leave feedback and ask questions.

That would be really nice.

It could also greatly reduce all those bots grinding Dominion and T-T. I am assuming some/most those accounts are eventually to be sold? The market would dry up over night if Riot did this.

I don't think this would work. Why do players want a second account?

  1. Because their first account has been banned. Selling accounts to these people is stupid.
  2. To play with friends new to the game. Selling high level accounts won't help this.
  3. To smash people who are worse than they are. This is not something I would support.
  4. To ruin games for other people without risking their main account. Again, not something I would support.

Those are the only reasons I can come up with. Either the player won't want a level 30 account (2,3,4) or won't want an account associated with the previous account (1,4). Then you have the "competitive integrity" thing. Riot won't sell accounts for 3.

This is a real bad idea, you may fix the problem for newbies but you are literally gonna have a smurf in a ranked game since you don't have to grind to 30.

Perhaps the new level 30 account could come with some starting IP (somewhere between 20k to 30k IP).

Riot condones multiple accounts. However, supporting the purchase of multiple accounts may imply that Riot approves of smurfing, which, while realistically doesn't affect too many players at the moment (only about 1/5 players can truly "smurf" because they are gold and above and if we eliminate gold V, a popular spot for elo boosting, (7.6%), we are left with about 13% of players capable of elo boosting and ruining a game for the remaining bronze/silver population. Now, I view a certain issue coming out of twitch.tv, in which high elo players make a 30-challenger/diamond/plat run much more easily. Sure its a good teaching resource, but when these players can grab a level 30 account for a few bucks every day, it may cause more players to be put into bad games and encourage not-so famous streamers to follow the pack in an attempt to "make it". Sure, we are talking about a very small portion of the community who constantly does these runs, but its still worth mentioning and given Riots current stance on smurfing, there likely won't be a line drawn for quite a while so we should note down the possibilities. source: http://www.leagueofgraphs.com/rankings/summoners-distribution

While this idea might provide some relief to new players, it won't stop people from making new accounts if their main was banned for whatever reason (usually toxicity) and/or for crushing new players.

DrCyanide6/26/2015, 3:23:39 PM2 votes

If you provide a way for players in good standing to instantly get to level 30, won't the only people left "rage grinding" be those players that already had toxic behavior?

Don't get me wrong, I think that in general is good, but there needs to be more done than just this.

you sir are a genius. I myself have a smurf, but I really don't care or even like going through those first 29 levels. I myself try to be a good smurf when I do it and help people out, but it's just not a fun experience for people to get creamed every match. I bump this

Or you could just have the same runes/champs that you actually own and just be unranked. Although this idea of yours to just buy level 30s can drastically increase the amount of smurfs in ranked.

Instead of calling it account it would seem better to change it to profile, so you have various profiles (summoner names) in one account (login name).

There is no worthwhile progression in this game. It's just withholding power to give the illusion of progression, but even that's not going to go well in a game without real endgame play. It's a strategy game with players on both sides, kinda like a board game with a weak beginning and powerful end on repetitive gameplay. It simply isn't fun when other players around start the match with an edge, such as extra properties in Monopoly, extra armies in Risk, more ships in Battleship, or even a free early turn in Tic Tac Toe. This game plays like a board game, and the withholding does not augment the game at all, and should be stricken from the game entirely.

LoL got one thing right over DotA 1. Augment the champions, augment the scenery, and make money off of that, but they need to leave the gameplay free. The fact that the gameplay itself is still not completely free is a little unnerving, actually.

And no, it isn't free. Anything in traditional gaming costs either time or money. In LoL, it's time, and that shouldn't be the case in any real strategy game. Players should feel competitive at all levels of progression, not get this "hazing" treatment until you are better than "recruit" status.

That's just not fun.

I think the problem is that people feel the need to make smurfs. Obviously nothing will 100% fix the problem, but I feel like it is an issue if people feel like to climb in ranked they need to make a smurf because their main account is already screwed in ranked.
