How to Ornn?

Hello fellow league players ,recently i took an interest in Ornn and i decided to main him cause he seems fun ,if only his gameplay was fun as well. I ask of anyone able to give me some honest advice on how i can get to be a better Ornn player since so far i have a 15-10% win rate with him. Lane phase in top? Get rekt by that attack speed kayle Oh you are under tower to defend? nice idea ,but you get a gank by that lvl 7 lee sin. Jungler , oh too bad you wont be able to gank as fast as that kayn or kha so rip lanes. And lets not forget support ornn Well you can farm at least ,cause you failed to keep your adc alive(if you haven't died yourself by a blitz/thresh/lulu supported adc). With that i ask again ,got any tips for a troubled man y'all? P.s : is it my idea ,or ornn is the worst tank so far,he cant tank anyone, he cant even deal damage ,and his whole kit feels clunky

Heres how to Ornn. SMASH, CRASH, BLOW, HORN, BONG, SLAP.

If you can translate that. I guarantee it'll help you climb.

Will see what I can suggest here soon once I finish washing the dishes. Commenting so I can find the thread again in case I lose it.

I can only speak really to Ornn top.

So, Ornn is actually a fairly strong tank in terms of what he brings to teamfights and his current laning. The right item buys can help sustain you greatly. Late game, his masterwork items can be really powerful on both you and your allies.

Ok, so browsing back through your matches, since that’s usually the best place to start. First point I’ll mention, I don’t recommend both Randuin’s and Thornmail. They both have Cold Steel, and as far as armor/health value, a Sunfire/FOrgefire Cape would be better over Randuin’s. Only downside is losing the crit damage reduction. But getting two Masterworks can make a big difference, especially with the coming buffs to Forgefire Cape, Infernal Mask, and Frozen Fist.

For the most part, builds are fairly sound. Probably once you had Abyssal against Kayle, I might’ve considered a Warden’s Mail for the Attack Speed slow, plus she does still deal some physical with her autos.

A lot of tank Ornn, though, is getting used to how his kit feels. It is a bit more clunky, but landing the skills feels worth it. Getting used to the Q-E combo takes some practice, as well as using E so it hits terrain. I recommend continuing to practice it though. Personal preference, Maxing E over W, in my opinion, feels pretty good, it lowers the CD of your core CC ability, it scales with your resists, and it’s base damage is pretty good for quick waveclear. A W-E for me as I get more levels in E will often clear the casters and take the melees low if not kill them until later in the game. Just be wary of pushing too hard and overextending.

Runes, results may vary, but I based mine off a top Ornn player, running Aftershock, Demolish, choose between Conditioning/Second Wind/Bone Plating depending on match-up, and Overgrowth primary, then secondary is Minion Dematerializer and Cosmic Insight. Stat shards I often run Adaptive Force, then resists depending on my match up.

Beyond that, a lot comes to practice and getting a feel for the kit, as His timings take some getting used to. But when used to him, he can fare pretty well.

Okay so I play a lot of tanks top lane. lately I've been playing a lot of Ornn. Heres some advice I've discovered:

  1. Start Q and use it to last hit early. Ornn cannot handle fighting a lot of the meta top laners early. Use your Q to last hit so you don't get all inned early. Let the wave push, but try to prevent it from going into tower. I Start corrupting potion almost every game as I use my abilities a lot against the minion waves early. As soon as you have 300 gold, build cloth armor (if against AD. I typically build health crystal against AP.)

  2. Your core items every game will be building sunfire cape and abyssal mask. Build sunfire first if against AD and Mask against Ap. For boots, you will want tabi 75% of the time. The rest is situational item wise. I find righteous glory useful if my team is really ahead.

  3. For runes, take resolve primary, inspiration secondary. Use grasp against extended fighters and aftershock against ranged or enemies who like quick trades (Riven). For inspiration, take biscuits for better lane sustain and more mana. The other one is your choice, but I recommend taking the CDR and summoner cool down. On resolve tree, choose demolish, bone plating, and overgrowth. These will help you be tanky and help you trade in lane.

  4. For skills, always max R>W>Q>E. If an enemy overextends and you want to trade, use your Q on them, wait about 1 second, then E into it for knock up, W and then auto. Back away afterwards unless they are really low.

  5. Be very greedy with your ult. DO NOT WASTE IT. In the games current state, a tank is nothing without his ultimate. Get good practice lining Ornns ult up. Sometimes you might want the Ram to run Away from you rather than towards you. You want to make sure you know how to use it. Be careful about cc as you don't want to get locked out of headbutting it. (watch out for braum and yasuo! They will make the ram disappear if they wall it!) A thing I often forget, is that the ram destroys player terrain, making Ornns ult useful against Jarvan.

  6. Make sure you upgrade team items. You get an upgrade at each level past 13. You get two of yours upgraded, with the first one getting upgraded at 13, which is an excellent power spike. You should upgrade the ADC, then Midlaner, then jungler. Support is low priority in most cases. Whoever is the most fed on your team you should upgrade first.

  7. Once you have your W maxed out, use it on caster minions to clear them. You can freeze near turret, then use W on them and kill them. The Melee minions stall, the ranged push. You want to keep the melee minions healthy if you want to freeze, so don't damage them with your W.

  8. Ornn takes some practice, but I've gotten decent results in my normal games. Hes pretty bad until he gets some CDR and items, then he scales rather well. Brittle, his upgrades, and his ultimate are the reasons you pick Ornn. He's really awesome in team fights, but his ult will make or break a lot of them. If takes practice to know when to use it, but its really satisfying to see that ram run through the enemy team and then knock them all up. Low elo games go longer, meaning more often than now if you're gold or below you'll get to Ornns power spike.

  9. Lastly, I would advise against picking Ornn if your team lacks team fighting capability. His wave clear is average, lackluster dueling power, and really bad early game. If you like playing tanks like me, Id advise picking Shen in those games and switching between the two. I hope you have a lot of fun playing Ornn! I know I am!

Update 1 : Followed all of your great tips and i got so much better thanks to you all ,but it still feels quite hopeless to carry a game with ornn ,or atleast to be of a major power in the team , per example a game i played had camille and yasuo ,so you can already expect that not only did i die in 0.3 seconds from camille but yasuo also kept his w only for my r ,so it was rather pointless ,i shifted my playstyle ofc to go with q+e and W to avoid yasuos 3rd q or camilles r ,but still not much difference. Tl;dr : thanks for the tips ,ill work with them to get even better.

umm as a top laner he has lost a lot of pressure into the lane but honestly i would reccomend going for a sustain type of rune setup for him as you are not going for kills but more to provide for teh team into the mid and late game.... im no pro i dont play him too much but from my understanding he is primarily used into other melee matchups as he can harass them with his % health damage in event of trades.

https://na.op.gg/champion/ornn/statistics/top

thats teh stats on him atm in op .gg he is sitting near the bottom as a top laner but is considered an okay suport.
