Discussion on the counterpick gameplay in almost any role and how we can fix it
Let's face it. We've all been in that game where the game is pretty much decided in the selection phase. When someone picks a scaling champ into a early game stomper and their jungler is an AFK jungler like
who's pre-6 ganks are like running it down like a piece of meat waiting for an
charm or
condemn. Failed ganks lead to the enemy jungler, a
lets say, snowballing by getting a good gank in the same lane or counterganking and getting a double kill. Your scaler is now behind and there's nothing you can do about it because you're bot lane and the game revolves around how your other laners do. If that scaler isn't mentally in it anymore, and he checks out spamming surrenders at 15 minutes, you're bound to have a bad time.
Don't misunderstand I know picks/bans are meant to be impactful, but when they are so impactful to the point of a person not being able to play the game due to a bad matchup/poor team synergy or lack of CC and
waiting to hypercarry it tends to be more of a coinflip than necessary. Every champ should have their strengths and weaknesses and some champs are made to exploit those weaknesses while others aren't. This is fine. But when a player of the game feels like he's not going to have fun in his lane at all and the only thing he can do is sit and wait to lose, it tends to wear thin on the player and make TFT sound more and more appealing.
I know there might not be much that can be done about this. I just wanted to bring it to light and maybe strike up a conversation about it on here. And it can be said that the higher of an elo you go the less of an issue this tends to be. But, we were all silver at some point. We've all had to climb out of it. We shouldn't disregard the problems of a game because there are players that grew out of it to their peers of higher elo. Some people get the bad side of a coin flip. Climbing feels more like a hassle than ever before.
Maybe these issues stem from balancing roughly 150 champions, all of which need to be unique from one another and also feel fun to play for those who like playing them. Maybe the issue lies deeper in the genre itself, relying on random teammates with only pings, typing, and instinct. Maybe it's the amount of time scalers need to scale coupled with the shortening of the game over time with tower plating and the gold increase on cannons causing late game champs to be pushed to the side VIOLENTLY due to the early game powerhouses getting their items faster and more reliably without necessary changes to their kit to keep up with their adversaries. Maybe nerf
so she isn't Vayne on voidroids? I dunno just some thoughts to start with.
