What Bothers Me about the New Vel

Vel is probably really the only champion i play regularly and with some semblance of skill and understanding; my other mastery champions are usually FoTM or off-meta picks I fuck around with. I digress.

I was excited for this update because I main Vel and I play a lot of Brand and Vladimir; I was looking forward to the changes they could make to introduce more geometry into Vel's kit and get this kind of fantasy of toying with your opponents before researching them and dealing puns of damage. The Beluga Whale Dev Corner thread was really well thought out and I think he/she certainly has a passion for our champion, unlike other Riot employees who have gutted or not delivered on the fantasises the playerbase want for their champion updates.

I was waiting all day today to read the changes on the PBE, imagine my excitement when I see this awesome microsite with the cool new dragon changes (topic for a different thread) and this kickass Malz splash.

And then I read Vel's tab.

1050 BASE +100% AP TRUE DAMAGE (granted it loses its Deconstruction applications but still)

holy fuck i'm going to have fun but i feel sorry for the weak-bones humans I manage to deconstruct

I've heard on a lot of other threads that players and Vel mains are scared that Riot has taken the mostly balanced Vel (who was a little weak in this meta but otherwise very fair and fun to play as) and turned him into this balance hell one-trick pony that is either insane or really really bad because his W and E were GUTTED [like 15-20% less AP scaling on each; E-W comboes in lane have like a 45% reduced AP scaling now :(, however, passive AP scaling makes up for that (40%) ]. He's going to have an atrocious laning phase and then become this mage Darius that sweeps the whole team under the brush. And Riot are mostly likely going to continue to gut more about his kit just so they can justify having this 1200+ true beam in his kit because thats the thing they've fixated on (COUGH MORDEKAISER Q AND DRAGON COUGH).

I think that what Riot is trying to do is interesting, and I definitely apreciate the AP scaling on the passive. Me as a Vel main is certainly ecstatic to have a true damage nuke beam to wreck face with but I'm scared Vel will become the Mordekaiser of the MYMU. Cheers, subtle nod of respect to other Vel mains in the community.

BTW I hate the new Vlad, Cass looks fun but her Miasma fixed cast range doesnt make sense, Brand passive is RIDICULOUS, Zyra looks much healthier and better overall, havent played Malz yet so no beans.
